I'm trying to figure out who pays the bills?

Bradley vs Alexander should have been huge if boxing nerds paid the bills.

But without the nerds, casual fans don't really get exposed to any new fighters, they're still interested in mosely, jones jr, and oscar. . . (hmm?)

I say let the best fight the best, and stop trying to let fights simmer for more money. The big money fights will always be there if the best is always fighting the best.

And for FWIW, i'm a bigger fan of arums quote, however lou's quote made me chuckle.

Another point, if you can't please your most hardcore and loyal fanbase (IE the boxing nerds) how are you supposed to continually please John Q. Everybody.

Pretty much true. Boxing would be dead in the United States without the boxing nerds. Casual fans do not go to any fight in the US not involving Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather. Casual fans do not purchase the small PPVs. Casual fans do not know who Sergio Martinez is. Casual fans have nothing to do with Sergio Martinez on HBO or him selling tickets.

i believe thats what lou is trying to change with a low risk somewhat name opponent like peter, who is a draw in providence. its a good style to look good against and have a highlight reel liek the pwill kayo which had some good play in the mainstream media

            Exactly.

For whatever reason, Lou doesn't want Sergio in the ring with Dmitry...

And aren't you a PROMOTER Lou and not a glorified HBO booking agent? Isn't it your job to make sure that 'normal people' know about your fighter and his opponent as much as 'boxing nerds'?

I guess but it's Lou's job to sell Sergio not HBO's job to put Sergio in against someone he will dominate to look good.
