Mike Tyson: Through The Eyes Of His Supporters

I posted this thread over at ESB when I used to post there and they made a joke out of it, I thought it was a good thread so I brought over here to see what my boxingscene family thinks.

This is how I think of Tyson and most of his fan do to in my opinion:

This is from the back cover of the book IRON MIKE: A MIKE TYSON READER

"Iron Mike is about more than boxing. Like no other athlete, Mike Tyson is at the center of Americas's preoccupations with race, class, masculinity, violence and celebrity;like no other athlete his story of high drama and low comedy inspires writers to wrestle with these themes-his rise to the Undisputed World Heavyweight Championship at age twenty-one;his rocky marriage to Robin Givens;his controversial conviction for the **** of Desiree Washington; his return to boxing and reclamation of the WBC and WBA belts; his biting of Evander Holyfield. IRON MIKE is a kaleidoscopic portrait of a man who, for better or worse, is one of the most recongnizable, popular, and defining icons of our time."

Thats sums up how I think of Mike Tyson. You know what the real truth is? no matter what happens for the rest of his career and no matter what anyone says Mike Tyson is an icon and legend to boxing and sports in general. He has seen every aspect of life from Poor thug on the streets to millionaire king of the world and now back to middle class. You no when someone has made a real impact? its when you can go to any house where you live and ask do you know who Mike Tyson is? and they will say of course. Name an active fighter now a days besides maybe De La Hoya you can do that with.

What an incredible story, I hope the next chapters isn't debt and despair as you seem to think but regaining some past glory before saying good bye to boxing and the sports world. Team Tyson 4 life

yes i agree. tyson doesnt deserve to be written off just yet, because he loss to williams because of his knee- we really dont know the truth about the 'new' mike tyson. if he loses one more time then yes i could say he is washed up....but since that knee made him lose he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

No matter what you think of Tyson, he's done a ton for boxing- all of his PPV's were huge sellers and like you said everyone know's the name Mike Tyson.

I really hope we see more of the guy in 2005 because you can't take that Danny Williams fight and say that he is finished-- he blew out his knee.

In 30+ years we would still be talking about Tyson like Ali

I agree, Tyson is going to be one of those athletes that means more and more to its sport as time goes on.

I still believe in Mike, in the first round of that Williams fight it felt like it was '87, '88 the way Tyson was dominating William's. Williams woundnt have made it past the second round if Tyson didnt injure his knee. If Roach can keep Mike focused he will do some damage in the HW division in 05. The current HW division is very weak right now and Tyson still has a good chance to dominate it once again.
