KELL BROOK’S assault on a world title must wait until he has sorted out life closer to home.
The unbeaten Sheffield welterweight’s contract with boxing promoter Frank Warren runs out shortly and negotiations are on-going.
But until they are complete, news of any major contest is unlikely to be announced.
Brook’s trainer, Dominic Ingle, said: “I have no idea when Kell will box next; it will have to wait until he has negotiated a deal.”
Brook had three successful fights last year to move to 23 straight wins and, after clinching the division’s Inter-Continental belt, seemed to be heading for a title shot in the WBO. But Ingle isn’t holding his breath for a WBO crown for the relatively unknown 24-year-old from Owlerton.
“Manny Pacquiao is campaigning at that weight again (fights Shane Moseley in May) and I cannot see a fight with Kell ever happening as boxing is run by TV and promoters,” he said.
Last month, Warren was quoted as saying that there could be some big fights ahead for Brook. Warren said talks with US promoter Bob Arum had initially thrown up the possibility of a fight with unbeaten American Mike Jones. Cornelius Bundrage and Miguel Angel Cotto had also been possibilities, he said
