Saw Gonzalez fight for the first time tonight; have to say I was very impressed; he displayed a calm demeanor throughout the whole fight: he took Manuel Vargas best shots, to follow up with two of his own: he would have the upper hand in most exchanges, nice hand speed; at times, he would throw that right straight and back Vargas into the ropes, where he would throw left hooks to the head and body and left uppercuts on the inside; Although he gave a valiant effort, refusing to go down, I just didnt see Vargas winning a single round; with all that said, Segura is an animal: he hits you with everything he can, anywhere he can, he suffocates his opponents with pressure, and doesnt give them a spot to breathe; I do recall Cesar Canchila catching Segura in their first fight in 08 and putting him down, giving me reason to believe Gonzalez would be more than capable of doing the same: but I also recall Segura destroying Canchila in their rematch: I can admit, Segura got tagged a bit in his fight with Calderon, and had Calderon had a bit of pop behind those punches, it mightve been a different result: but truthfully, I dont think it wouldve really mattered, Segura performed like a man possessed in that bout, and nothing wouldve beaten him that night: if that same Giovani Segura were to fight Roman Gonzalez, id give him the edge: what do you guys think?
