you dont know what happened. two very different situations. donaire's contract was up & they contacted lawyers & advisors to see if they are free of arum & they were advised to do so. manny signed a piece of paper after oscar showed him a bag of money. two entirely different situations. donaire actually went to school while manny skipped school.

this is just the case of arum ***ing donaire with some ridiculous injury extension loop hole.

why is it so ridiculous? did he not injure his hands so that he couldn't fight? that means time on his contract gets extended on the back end.

all contracts have clauses ... his contract stipulated that any downtime from injuries or suspensions means his contract is extended that same amount of time on the back end.

he's just trying to get away from TR but what'll end up happening is now TR will gets a cut of all his fights for the next year or two, the same way that GBP get a cut from Manny's fights.

Wait so is Donaire still under Arum?

Does Arum still get a slice?

You're talking through your backside. Donaire's contract is not up until June 25th. That is, under NORMAL conditions. Top Rank has the option of a one year extension which they have indicated that are going to ecercise. There is also another extension of 2 six month periods during which Donaire was injured and unable to box. ll this has already been laid out in the existing contract.

The "***" as you like to call him, Arum, is a lot smarter than you, and the way you write, it looks as if almost everybody is.

Better question is, how many Filipinos under contract with Top Rank will Golden boy sign before they get the message?

I swear they have trained monkeys running the show over there. How hard is it to read a ****ing contract and its clauses before jumping the gun and then being dragged into court?

Just found some video from a source within GBP. It was from a recent staff meeting after Oscar announced the signing of Donaire:

You can't argue with an antisemite like "Brutal". I believe that the Judge will rule that the contract, which is still in force until June 25th, is VALID, and will be extended by the injury times out, plus the option for the year extension all of which is in the legal and binding contract. Both of which you have mentioned.

They are trying to get out by saying that the contract is up (or will be up) and ignoring the injury time extension and the extra year option AT TOP RANK'S choice, by saying that they were guaranteed 3 fights a year. But the CONTRACT says that they are to be OFFERED 3 fights a year (quite a different thing), and that they WERE offered the fights but weren't able to comply because of the injuries. .

The Manny P. situation ended with Golden Balls getting (by mutual agreement) a very small percentage-I believe 5%- which saved a lot of time out of Manny's career and was cheaper than the legal fees. Top Rank held all the cards, Oscar was trying to pull a dirty one.

Arum even had a clause in Manny's contract which forbade him to even discuss contracts with any other promoter until his own contract was up, which -like Donaire's- it still wasn't.

But Oscar "seized the moment" when Manny was dropping off to sleep from fatigue and jet lag after a 16 hr. flight. Manny knew it was not legal he just wanted to get away from Oscar and politeness held him there. he was much more naive then than now, and his cultural background prevented him from saying a FORCEFUL ......NO!

It was all minutely publicized at the time.

The way contracts are worded is a sneaky thing shiesty lawyers use to get over on people. I'm no legal expert but the final say will come from the courts. Let's wait until that happens. Donaire will probably have to come to some sort of financial agreement with TR.

I don't see why. He's still under a valid and enforceable contract to Top Rank, and unless they want to let him go -which I doubt- Oscar can whistle. I spent over 4 years working in a law office when young, and still recall a little about contracts, apart from much life experience since.
