It seems like everyone is criticizing Martinez for wanting to take the biggest fights of his career against Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. These same people gave Paul Williams hell and high water for doing the same thing. Which added to the blind hate that Williams gets on here.
Obviously Money Martinez isn't going to fight Pacquiao and Floyd is highly unlikely at this point. Besides Cotto and possibly Hopkins, there's no other bigger fight for him than a Paul Williams rematch.
Regardless of the decision, the first fight was a classic that we were lucky to see on HBO. The ending to the second fight drives my point even further. I think if the third fight was on PPV, it would do decent numbers. Much better than Zab/Mabusa, Mosley/Mora I think. Whenever Paul and Sergio step in the ring against each other, there's always something to talk about.
Historically, we could be looking at one of the best trilogies in boxing history when we look back at this years from now.
If Sergio can't KO Williams. Will he be able outpoint a decision win? The same criticisms about Martinez were the same that people said about Williams, that he could be hit. Sergiy showed that in his last fight. Say what you want about Paul, but we all know he's very capable of tagging Martinez the same way he got tagged in the second fight.
I'd think that Williams would have a better gameplan this fight from the obvious KO incident. Before the KO, he did a solid job making Sergio fight at his pace. He would have some controlled aggression in this third fight because he knows what will happen if he doesn't.
Given that this fight would be on PPV if it happens, Paul has plenty of motivation to upset Sergio. Aside from the KO, he could finally achieve a goal of being a PPV draw and set himself for bigger fights. I actually give Williams a decent chance of winning the third fight.
Regardless of the outcome, it would give fans something to talk about. It would be a very good fight for the sport of boxing. What chances does Paul Williams have of beating Money Martinez in a rubber match?
