I think there's a good case to be made that a move to gdp was the best option for donaire at this point. If he thinks for any reason he's not being promotated correctly then he needs to make a move just like anyone else in his situation would. I understand why top rank didn't put him on manny's cards, and I understand why he wants to make a move to gdp. Really I don't see anyone doing anything wrong on either side, it's a business first second and third.

He sure does need to get a leash on his ***** though, it's NEVER good when someone's wife takes it appon herself to issue statements involving her husbands career moves to the media. I'm not saying "stay in the kitchen" I'm just saying "stay in your lane". Spouting off at the mouth about anything that has to do with manny pacquiao isn't gonna help u in the Philippines. Stay classy, do what u have to do, and keep ur personal problems with people to yourself. It would be one thing if it was donaire coming out saying something, but HIS WIFE???? I just wish I could have been there when he found out his girl was playing promoter/agent/media newbie, the look on his face must have been "priceless".

as far as donaire moving to gbp, i totally agree with it. i don't think top rank properly promoted him. he was fed bums but the guy is willing to fight and challenge the top fighters. it's just that arum was not convinced back then that donaire is a star material. it's only now that arum realized donaire has what it takes to become big in boxing.
What's up Brick? I don't think that Koncz will move to TR, it sounds like he's running MP Productions and probably will still be one of the main guys there after Manny's done boxing. As far as not putting Donaire on Pacquiao undercards, IMO it was more of a strategical move to make money on both ends (by Arum) rather than lump it all in to one. Who knows for sure, I'm pretty sure Arum knows what he has/had in Donaire (a rising star with great talent) but my thinking is that Arum wanted to have Nonito somewhat lay low (come up slow) as to have him take over as the token Pinoy when Pacquiao retires.

The only reason I see this whole TR/GBP mess being a bad idea at this time is that Donaire is probably going to be tied up in court and legal issues before he'll be allowed to (legally) fight for GBP. If he tries to fight under GBP now, Arum would probably file an injunction to hold up the process, keeping Donaire from legally fighting until the Court renders its decision on the binding terms of the contract. That's going to be a huge nightmare for Donaires immediate future and futher the ongoing fued between TR and GBP. It's a damn shame because Nonito could be forced to be even more inactive then he was complaining of being in the first place, while losing out on some important fights in the present time. Make no mistake, Bob Arum is going to fight this tooth and nail and Donaire/GBP could end up owing TR millions before he gets done with him (if he wins). If Donaire fights under GBP before the legal mess is straightened out, he could end up owing TR more than he actually makes fighting for GBP.

            He doesn't need it.

He doesn't live there, and he is a world-class fighter.

*** the Phillipines, if they are that ignorant.

            There's no money there anyways.

Plenty of top fighters weren't Philipino bro.

GBP has an exclusive man-crush relationship with HBO so he will easily get Donaire on air than Top Rank can. All Bob Arum had to do was showcase Donaire once on a Pacquiao PPV and the Filipino people would have taken notice. Instead, he fought in relative obscurity for 3 years straight and only when Bob was scared he might lose him, he gave him the big Montiel fight.

I understand Donaires reasoning for leaving Top Rank. GBP will get him on HBO or even Showtime much more often and even if Agbeko beats Mares, I think Don King would be willing to work with GBP again to set up a unification fight with Donaire. Agbeko doesn't have a belt but if he beats Mares, he will be considered the second or third best bantamweight. And if Moreno signs with GBP, you could get Donaire vs. the winner of Mares-Agbeko and put Moreno on the undercard and have the winners fight later in the year for complete bantamweight supremacy...

                You can't be serious ?

Koncz is a business administrator, he is not a boxing guy, or a manager.

"We've put some young guys on there because the purses that we have to pay are minimal. So it's strictly business."

So that's why the undercards for Manny's fights are always shi*tty.

I miss the days when Don King able to give us Julio Cesar Chavez, Felix Trinidad, and Azumah Nelson on the same card.
