Comments Thread For: DeGale vs George Will To Be Announced Tomorrow?

The long wait for confirmation of the time and date for James DeGale versus George Groves may finally be over as the details of the contest are expected to be announced tomorrow by Frank Warren, along with news of the WBO 175lb fight between Juergen Braehmer and Nathan Cleverly. David Coldwell won the purse bids for the DeGale-Groves fight and has been working with Warren with an eye to staging the contest on a Warren-promoted show. Both fighters have talked the fight up in recent weeks, both have posted wins over nondescript opposition as they ready themselves for the clash, it now seems that we will finally find out where and when the British blockbuster will take place.

shame it's going to happen so early into their respective careers... degale and groves seem to look better against guys they feel are a real threat and in the case of degale his styles more suited against a fighter who comes to fight....

in the scheme of the 168 division, i personally think dirrell even though his future has seemed uncertain is the benchmark, and as much as the british public have been excited by degale... i'm personally not convinced he could mix it with someone like dirrell.... and i think he's still quite far from the likes of andre ward, carl froch or lucian bute....

so i'm not sure where this fight leaves groves or degale, it may leave winner as the undisputed domestic champion but it will hardly make a mark on world rankings, and that's why it's too early for both...

I agree, way too early this one.

Anyway, anyone know what kind of card will be with this, Olympians etc, hopefully this is not the head-liner.

I understand what your saying man but that sort of mentality is what kills boxing. Your stmt is exactly the mentality of promoters but from a fans point of view lets see them get it on now. How many times do we have this sort of scenario but ultimately the fight doesn't happen in the future because one of the fighters weren't quite as good as there potential earlier in there career. Lets be serious and look at Britains past world champions. Have we had lots of world champions competing in the same weight devision at the same time?

It just doesn't happen that way too often so lets not watch them fight bums and get 25v0 records and let them fight now. For the record I think this fight happens now because both fighters are extreamly confident they'll win and have genuine bad blood between each other. DeGale will win and is the only one moving up to world level, George has the wins in the amatuers and thinks he'll do it again. Groves ain't going near world level on showings to date, his defence is absolutely shocking.

I'm pleased this gets made now.

Needs to happen now before Ugly Boy gets knocked out by someone lesser.

this is just a good fight to see whos the better one at this stage, and who has the better style to beat the opponent.

I think degale looks good, but the style of fighters hes been in with have suited him,yet hes still been hit clean a few times.he slaps and paws his punches,i dont like this tbh.

Groves looks a little silly in trying to fight and not box smart, but i think his style and power could take him quite far.

Both will stay at british and european level for some time until they see an easier route to title than vs froch or any super six contestants.

Well if you have watched Degale you will know thats what he calls George.

anyway, KO for Degale, would of liked this fight to of happened later on in the year really say for Mcgee's belt.
