Right but assessment of how one earns it is ambiguous to say the least. What does that even mean, rebuild the confidence fans and the media? Maybe it's to instill hope among viewers that not every fight won't be Bradley-Alexander material .. ? 'Awarded to boxers who earn them through their performance, indeed. Cotto looked damn impressive.

For the record, Foreman had surgery on that leg and was coming off a long rest period. He wasn't the same bouncy pugilist who squared off against Cotto/Santos, anyone who saw the fight could tell. He wasn't even covering up most of the time, and Wolak answered by scoring flush rights. Yuri shouldn't box anymore, I don't know if his leg is permanently fked or if he's flat out lost confidence but the kid looked horrible in his return.

So your saying it doesn't matter that Cotto hasn't fought a single top ranked 154 lbs fighter, other the Foreman, to earn 2 titles at 154 lbs?

Reminds me of the WBC belt that Canelo "EARNED" against the #1 contender and goat Matthew Hatton. That Fat *** president of the WBC sure loves to give out his belts to his fellow mexicans.

I guess thats his business then. Cotto holding the belt and defending it amongst the big names certainly adds to it's prestige though, and I'm sure thats their initiative in awarding it to a warrior of his calibur.

Another embarassment for boxing. This joke of an organization claims to be legit but then gives Cotto a belt based off a win over Mayorga a guy who has no business of even being ranked in the top 10 at the weight. Its too bad that we have clowns running this sport because with the right people in charge boxing would be a lot more popular.

I think it's the significance behind earning the belt. idk. He won the WBA super belt from Yuri and automatically became the front runner in his division, so the comission hand him this strap as a means of saying he's bringing value and mainstream appeal to the sport and his division? It's more conjecture than anything but showing improvement over career lows by impressing against Foreman & Mayorga seems like an adequate resolution.

I didn't know they handed belts out for giving recognition to the sport or a division. I thought you earned a title by beating the best at that division.

I'm not gonna hate on the strap he got from Foreman, it wasn't Cotto fault Foreman won it in the first place, but Foreman really never was a top jmw and would lose to all the top contenders.

But to get a strap for beating a washed up fighter who hadn't fought in over a year is just some old BS in my opinion, but hey to each his own.
