  • Comments Thread For: Team Martinez: Forget Pacquiao, Bring Mayweather, Cotto

It seemed like a bright, if not radiantly luminescent, idea at the time I had it. But, according to Sergio Martinez promoter Lou DiBella, it was not a thought worthy of an Everlast Einstein. In speaking to DiBella Tuesday afternoon, he put a quick kibosh on the thought of a Sergio Martinez vs. Manny Pacquiao mega-fight. Instead he wants to see his boxer face Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Miguel Cotto. If nobody steps up, then Martinez will target a big name at super middleweight, but DiBella says that won't happen until the end of the 2012, early 2013.

LOL...why don't they call out Pascal, Hopkins, or Dawson. That's like Pacquiao calling out guys from the 135 division.

Again he is avoiding the biggest fight that can be made at 160. Dmitry Pirog. Undefeated fighter and WBO champ. Dibella is a fraud.

How about you try fighting a MW. An alcoholic Pavlik is the only one you've faced so far.

Yeah sure...the Argentine who was a career 154 lb fighter needs to call out guys fighting at 175 lb to gain any respect. LOL, I guess so man........

This is what I've been saying. He needs a couple big name first at 154 to get some exposure and leech off a new fanbase from another big name fighter. Sort of like what Pacquioa did with De La Hoya. Then he could move up to 168 to cement his name as an all time great. Otherwise he'll be living in obscurity for the rest of his career.
