What was funny about the Cohen characters was not his racial stereotyping (which was not the point of it at all, and in fact was meant to be ironic), but the way he took people in. Ali G getting people like Tony Benn, Mohamed Al Fayad and Boutros Boutros Ghali to take him seriously despite the outrageously ****** questions he was asking them, was hilarious. Borat getting white American anti-Semites to go into detail about how they wanted to murder all the ***s (little suspecting that he is ***ish) was also hilarious.

So in fact it was ironic highbrow comedy of a sort, but it seems to have been too subtle for you and you missed the point.

I only saw a couple of his shows, the one where he stood next to an angry group of picketers who were campaigning against hunting/killing animals, and when they accused him of hating animals he flatly stated NO! So they asked him why he hunted animals, he replied..... "for fun"

The other one I saw, he interviewed some white collar connected with the government, FDA or something... and he asked them if the difference between class A and class B drugs means that class A is the "really good ****"?
