Pirog is good but Sergio beats him. People are making Pirog out to be this boxing whizz because he beat Danny Jacobs. Pirog has only has 17 pro fights under his belt and his best win was against a green Jacobs who had yet to fight real competition.

17 fights is less than half of the fights that Sergio has and he has faced no where near the level of opposition that Sergio has. If they fought, Martinez would beat Pirog by UD or TKO stoppage in the final 4 rds. It would be the situation of a boy against a man........not a pretty result for the die-hard Pirog fans.

the truth is, there isn't anyone else at 160 lbs. if martinez doesn't fight pirog it's officially a duck.
HBO made him fight Dzinziruk. That was the only fight involving Martinez that they would televise.......no TV airing, no million dollar payday

Let me translate what diBella is really saying: We don't want Pirog because he is a high risk low reward prospect. I am positive my beast of a fighter will beat him, but we would all much prefer to get insanely rich by fighting either FMJ or MP, and if that doesn't happen we will take Cotto.

Any coincidence these 3 fighters are the top PPV draws in the USA?? Me thinks not ppl.

I agree but he has to fight him in Germany.

A fight between two adonis look-alike boxers. No ****.

I don't understand the issue here. Sergio Martinez has paid his dues and has fought the best opponents of any top five pound for pounder recently. He wants a big money fight. He deserves it. Why else is his promoter saying this? Because they're scared? Really?

DiBella is a crappy ass promoter, Martinez should join GBP or so to get more recognition.

I think its really wrong that the WBO stripped Sergio and all that, and I can half way understand Dibella's position of not wanting to fight for it again. Fair play. But why not just fight Pirog without paying the sanctioning fee? And another thing that makes him look like a hypocrite is Sergio calling out the Chavez Jr.-Zbik winner. Dibella doesn't want Martinez to fight this guy because he knows he's a threat. Plain and simple.

Martinez isn't one of these dudes who will fight against all comers at the drop of a hat like say Glen Johnson is for example. Age is a weak excuse. Defend your title at 160 and quit calling out smaller guys.

we all remember how dibella matched jermain taylor against guys his own size and he got destroyed. taylor was doing fine against spinks and ouma but when he fought winky, pavlik, froch and abraham....oops career down the ****ing drain. dibella is being extra protective now.

Nobody's gonna duck Pirog. Especially to fight Pac, Mayweather or Cotto. Thats like avoiding an alley cat to wrestle a tiger. Pirog hasnt earned anything so why is everyone fighting so hard for him to get this fight.
