Comments Thread For: Steward on Why Cotto Lost To Margarito, The Rematch

Everything is now pointing in the direction of a rematch between WBA 154-pound champion Miguel Cotto and his Mexican rival Antonio Margarito. In 2008, Margarito (30-7, 27KOs) stopped Cotto (36-2, 29KOs) in the eleventh round. The two Top Rank promoted fighters are possibly going to face each other for a second time on July 16, in either New Jersey or Las Vegas.

LOL.... Cotto just never got to sit on his punches. He gave many headsnapping shots that were strong... But he didn't sit in the pocket and really dig into his shots. This was the first time Cotto had to fight going backwards... Cotto lost the first fight because he didn't fight well backing up against a smotherer like Margs and he has slow footwork... Don't get me wrong, he has superb footwork... he just isn't going anywhere in a hurry. Its crazy... Cotto's worst loss was also probably his most impressive outting except for the obvious ending. He was very sharp that night... He just ran out of gas and time

Cotto usually commands the ring, it was different with Margarito. He should fight more in the center of the ring rather than lay on those ropes because his defense isn't pretty.

That's exactly what he did against Mayo.
