Martinez is probably about the same as the Jermain Taylor Hopkins fought IMO. Maybe a little better, but we have no one to compare to. That Taylor did beat Hopkins twice and draw with Winky Wright, so he was damn good.

Huge weight disadvantage? martinez came in at 170.

It doesn't matter what weight you come in at, it matters how well you carry the weight for a specific weight class.

Martinez is a small middle weight period. I mean Pavlik dwarfed Martinez when they fought. Serg couldn't stop Pavlik from coming forward all night. Serg is really a 154lb fighter but the same reason why Paq has been able to move so far up in weight is the same reason why Martinez can take shots at 160. It's all due to the lack of great opposition. Martinez iced the best at Light Middleweight and Middleweight is kind of a weak division at the moment.

As for a fight between Martinez and Hopkins I think it's a coin flip only because I like to give the underdog more of a chance based off of how they perform when they perform their best. So I say it's a coin flip, but Hopkins would be the favorite obviously.

Over all I think Martinez is slippery enough and quick enough to stand more than a chance with a prime Hopkins. I've never seen Hopkins look good against a slick fighter.
