I’ve only seen Dzinziruk’s last 3 fights (or so), and did so only to make a prediction. I came away thinking, Sergio will have a fairly easy nights work. My opinion, is just that, mine and only based on 3 or so fights: (vs Dawson, vs Julio, and some rounds vs Konecny, and a few rounds vs Santos) I think Dzinziruk is a very standard fighter, almost perfectly standard – he has a fairly tight guard. I do like that he uses his jab, but I’m not overly impressed with it; I’ve read and heard other posters rave of how stiff his jab is, I just don’t see it – I think it’s actually a misconception because he uses it so often. It does appear to have some pop on it, but not like I expected after hearing predictors. Other things to note, via boxrec, he has a 62% KO ratio by 37-(23)-0. He’s gone the distance 6 out of his last 9 fights (The other 3 were stoppages at or past the 10th round). He’s a calculating boxer; he stands straight up, throws the jab out there quite often and might follow it up with a short combination. He does use lateral movement, but his footwork won’t give Sergio any sort of problems, atleast I don’t expect it to. He’ll circle you at a decent pace, if his opponent comes in aggressively, he’ll back step, avoiding the contact or counter with a check hook. I wouldn’t consider him a great counter puncher though. He enjoys standing in the middle of the ring and picking you with his jab, and if you let him then you’re just giving away rounds. He’s a fundamentally sound fighter, and that is as far as I would take it – Even with those pluses, I still think this is going to be an easy nights work for Sergio. Sergio’s movement and combination punching should off-set Dzinziruk before going off on him ala vs Pavlik.
I’m looking forward to this fight (might have to catch it tomorrow) because I enjoy watching good boxers like Sergio Martinez, I’m not too thrilled at the opponent, but hopefully I’ve underestimated him.
BTW, I’m expecting Martinez to win by 9th Round TKO, I don’t think Martinez will show any respect to Dzinziruk’s power shots, it’ll just be a slow, but effective breakdown over the course of about 9 rounds, and I’m very hesitant of even giving it that much distance.
And if I’m wrong about ALL this, then damn, I’m sorry you even bothered reading this much.
Enjoy the fights
