The lack of a staredown gives me almost nothing to make baseless predeterminations on.

There has been a lot of talk over the past couple of days. Steward said the key to beating Mayorga is not trying to block his punches but making him miss so you can catch him when he's off balance.

Cotto was talking about how it's nice to have Steward in camp focusing on boxing, because he wants to get out of the game without getting injured again. And he said he could retire at any time.

Mayorga, on the other hand, said he's going for the early knockout because he wants to stop Cotto faster than Pacquiao did. If he does, Mayorga and King want to make a fight with Pacquiao -- since King and Arum are buddies again.

Add to that the fact that Mayorga is the naturally bigger AND taller guy, and that Mayorga is reportedly in very good shape, and I think Mayorga very well could win.

I can't tell where Cotto's head is going into this fight. And Mayorga's really been playing mind games with him. Cotto wouldn't even do a staredown with him the other day or at the weigh-in. IMO he didn't because he didn't want to look "up" to Mayorga.

Cotto's only 5'7". I can't picture a smaller guy like that stopping Mayorga. Oscar and Trinidad were a shade under 6' and made Mayorga look small. And I can't picture Cotto playing "bullfighter" successfully for 12 rounds. Because Mayorga is going to be boring in.

I think Mayorga has a real shot at winning.

Can you imagine if Mayorga and Pacquiao fought? Wow.

Re. Mayorga being in shape, how can you tell?
I know...compared to what? He looks ok, that's about it.

Cotto already did the staredown...i watched it, he tried to make Cotto flinch...Cotto barely moved...a natural reaction. Anybody would flinch, especially with a dick like mayo, who might actually try to slap Cotto...lol.

I respectfully disagree... he does have a shot at winning yes, but a "real" shot...well just look at the odds for this fight. I couldn't even get one decent bet! Cotto will win, might not be easy, but he will.

Mayo is too wild and crazy. Cotto is much more refined, focused and experienced. Much smarter in the ring than Mayo. His anger is going to make him fight ****** and he will lose, imo.

Unless it's a fight like Lewis and Tyson then a Staredown should be necessary. The staredown is what sells the most to casual buyers.

No, he is absolutely wrong...Cotto is not scared, Most every boxer that enters the ring is not scared, a healthy concern, yes, but not fear, less they woudn't be fighting! Duh.

Cotto will win. Guaranteed. Mayo is a 6:1 underdog., at least in the bet threads here. i couldn't get one big decent (small-odds) bet on Cotto. Everybody know he's going to win.
