Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez Trainer Switch as Dzinziruk Approaches

Due to some personal issues, trainer Gabriel Sarmiento (46-2, 25KOs) is unable to work the corner of Sergio Martinez this coming Saturday at Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Martinez faces unbeaten WBO junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-0, 23KOs) for the vacant WBC Diamond belt at 160-pounds. According to Martinez's adviser, Sampson Lewkowicz, Gabriel's brother, Pablo Sarmiento, will take over the head trainer duties in the corner on Saturday night.

I hope all is well with Gabriel. He seems to be a great trainer and a great person in general.

this fight will be very technical - i see it being one of those fights where it's hard to score most rounds - mostly straight punches will be landed. to me martinez's more flashy style will usually give him the edge should it be a close round. since this is dibella's card, and martinez has potential lucrative matches on the horizon - i think they see something in sergiy in which they are very confident.

Personal issues between Martinez and Gabriel, or personal for just Gabriel?

Only the WBC could come up with the genius plan to strip Martinez of his real belt and make him fight for a meaningless, nothing belt instead.

Bear in mind they stripped him at 154 too, so they could offer his belt to Manny at some bs catchweight, then to Canelo for another meaningless catchweight.

                    Jokers.
