      Even if there was equal padding it would still be illegal. Boxing rules clearly state you must hit with the front part of the glove, that's why in the amateurs, that part of the glove is painted white.

      It's just simply part of the rules of boxing, same reasoning behind why you can't kick or elbow. This isn't MMA it's boxing....

            But is there a specific reason for it? In the bareknuckle boxing days kicking and elbows were legal. It wasnt until the queensbury rules that they were deemed unsportsmanlike

            Backhands are still part of the fist though and seemingly well within the realm of boxing

                You kind of just answered it right there. Back hands are seen as unsportsman like.

                Queensbury rules changed the way the sport was practiced and it was made to be seem more as a gentleman's sport.
