    Paging margaret goodman:
    Head trauma is boxing.
it's an unfortunate part of the sport. it's the great making quality of the sport.
    it is the sport.

    it's what we score
it's what stops a fight and takes away the subjectivity of the judges (of evaluating the level of head trauma put on an opponent, margaret.)

but when you're scoring the effective punches
    you're scoring head trauma.
and other types of trauma to the body

get out of boxing if this is all you're going to do.

This has really gone too far. Yes, Erik is taking on a huge challenge in facing Maidana. But as long as he's fit and is deemed able to fight by the commission, stop with the 'risking his health' bs. If there's anywhere Morales can handle himself, it's in a ring.

This fight shouldnt happen period, Morales is done physically, I like how people are here are saying silly things about Dr goodman, A professional who has been in around the sport for years, She knows what she's talking about.

Just because Morales pass an MRI doesnt mean he should be in the ring taking additional punches, he's risking his health and life.

If Morales keeps on fighting without knowing what caused the ringing in his ears, then it would be so idiotic that that in itself sounds like braindamage to me.

she gets widespread criticism because shes preaching to the choir

there's no test done in a lab that's more important than the honest opinion of his handlers and neutral parties close to his career.

she's talking about a phenomenon (deterioration from professional boxing) that is not neccessarily testable.

under their criteria(that of the athletic commission,) erik morales is licensed and qualified.
if you're going to have criteria at all, you've got to let him fight by definition

she's pushing for tests that dont exist.

she's got a regular column in the ring
              which i read
              and often agree with
but the regular criticism she receives deals with the paradoxical nature of her advocacy for professional boxers health and what seems like an attempt to take deterioration out of boxing

              it's not possible
and if you change boxing to eliminate head trauma it's not going to be boxing.

these guys get paid to sustain head trauma. the rules in place limit it's nature and severity, but it's the head trauma and damage to the body that evaluates who wins and loses.
it is the worst part of the sport
              but it is the sport.

all of that being said i've been calling this a horrific decision for morales and his handlers the entire time this train has been rolling

he's the ballsiest man on the planet
and if their rules allow him to fight
              they've got to let him

                Just a suggestion

Now let's begin by saying that we all love the sport of boxing here - that's why we are on this site. But, perhaps there is some room for improvement - maybe to add a sense that boxing is not only for knuckle dragging neanderthals, who are just looking to see blood and broken faces. After all who wishes their boxing heroes to suffer Parkinsons or any other disease related to getting their brains sloshed around?

We are living in the age of information. As a suggestion, perhaps young boxers could undergo testing of their speech, motor reflexes and cognitive abilities. Throughout their career, comparitive testing; and perhaps a deterioration index score, could help advise the boxer and his family to determe whether it's time to retire - and stay retired!

Absolutely, these people saying "it's part of boxing" are fools. If you have symptoms and you realize that something is wrong in your head, it's time to stop.

Morales was a great champion, time for him to move on tot he next chapter in his life. This will not end in a good way.

I have a feeling we might see Ali vs Larry Holmes.....I just don't want to see this.

this is a dangerous fight for erick,he's obsessed with winning a title at 140,he can do it at 135 so what if it isn't for a fourth weight class,i think if he were still more active and good it's ok,but he's at the end of his career and taking way too many shots, going for a title in fourth weight class should be done when you're younger and in your prime, like donaire, even montiel is still young, not like in the conditions morales is in,he's risking a lot
