why??? they matchd him against an opponent he was better than and he gave up. thats on him. not on golden boy. that was his fight to win.

It was match-making mistake. They thought Maidana couldn't beat Kotelnik, so Ortiz can easily KO him. They threw Ortiz to the lion and he got beat up like a dog, quit like a pussy. There is a huge difference between all the bums Ortiz was KOing and Maidana, who refuses to be KOed. In Victor's logic Maidana wasn't supposed to wake up after the KDs.

He may have had more longevity if they brought him up slower, but he would have failed when he moved up in class no matter who promoted him.

Arum probably would have cherry picked Ortiz's opponents early on, but he would have ran into Maidana or fighter like him to test his heart and durability at some point.

He'd probably still be on the way up now and people wouldn't be writing off Ortiz so soon since Arum likes to protect his younger fighters and bring up them slowly.

If he was with Arum now, haters would call him another overrated, protected Top Rank hype job (like Chavez Jr., Juanma, Donaire, Gamboa, etc.) as opposed to exposed hype job with no heart.

If Ortiz stayed with Arum, Rios probably would have been the guy to make his name off Ortiz and not Maidana.

His career ain't over, and Ortiz can still turn things around, but he's fighting an uphill battle that only got harder since the Peterson fight.
