Why would a great fighter need to beat fighters coming off loses and use catchweights

So you have to fight unbeaten boxers,to get any credit for the win? If that is the case floyd cant be that good, because he hasnt fought that many.
You saying Pac wont get credit for beating Cotto, Margarito, hatton, just cos they have a loss on their record? That is the dumbest thing ive ever heard. They didnt actually lose the fight prior to fighting pac, *****s dont seem to understand.
Cotto was coming off some good wins, as was hatton and margarito come to think of it as well.
So Pac isnt allowed to fight anyone unless they have got zeros on their resume? Floyd has a zero but he dont want none of it.Comment

You are right and I this kind of post isn't really fair....BUT...
I do think its has a lot of merit. I think Pac is an awsome fighter and you can't take much away from the fact that he has moved up so many weight divisions, but, I also think that a good part of the way he did it was smoke and mirrors as well.
If you are gonna have Barrera, Morales, Marquez on your resume, doesn't it matter at all when u fought them? I don't value Mayweathers win over Mosley anywhere near as high as I would if were 6 yrs ago. Danny Green beat Roy Jones, but doesn anyone see that as him actually beating ROY JONES?
I give him huge props for the first fight with Barrera, Morales(even though he lost) and Marquez, but 2nd and third fights with Marquez and especially Morales are very iffy. They knew he was having problems with weight, not to mention he had just gotten beaten by Raheem. He wanted the fight at a higher weight and they refused. They knew he would be drained in both fights. In fact, the warrior that Pac is, that part kinda surprises me, because I would think he would want to prove he could beat the best version of Morales available. Even just to prove it to himself.Comment

No that's not what I'm saying. Let me give you a clue, Pac's next fight is a perfect example of my point. Pac and his team refused to fight Mosley at a catch weight of 142lbs. after Shane destroyed Margarito. Pac rushed to sign to fight Shane after he looked like garbage in his last 2 fights, this is no coincidence. Pac is probably good enough to beat all of his recent opposition without all the dumb stipulations. Do you catch my drift now?
That is like saying Floyd is very, very careful when he chose DLH as well. He waited until SSM beat him and a few others. He waited until SSM had 5 losses and was old, but wouldnt dare touch him before that. And again only reluctantly fought SSM when forced to by the public and SSM himself. He waited until Hatton was nearly knocked out at 147 by Collazo before plucking up the courage to fight Hatton. And only on the condition that the referee would look out for hattons dirty tactics so he could miss floyds elbows.
Its a vicious circle. People think they can control how much reverence Pac is allowed to have will backfire on you all.Last edited by hugh grant; 03-06-2011, 08:39 PM.Comment

Lets get this straight now. Some people act like Pacquiao is the first great fighter to do this. Plus no one is forcing these opponents to agree to the catchweight. They can walk away and say no. But if they agree to it then so be it. If the fighters who take the fight don't complain then why should the fans complain?Comment

These Pac critcics do the sport a disservice, thinking they can downgrade the biggest name the sport has got. Talk about scaring away the future stars of boxing away from the game. Someone as succesful as pac being ****ted on for no apparant reason, or logical reason.
Pac supposedly chooses carefully when he fights people? So what is floyd doing then when he sits on the sidelines waiting for everyone beating each other up before he decides to have a bit himself? Thats what floyd is famous for isnt it. Sitting on the sidelines observing and then choosing carefully. He certainly dont intentionally choose the most dangerous opponent because otherwise how come he hasnt fought the cottos, margaritos let alone the sergios or Pacs of this world.
Unles you think Cotto could beat Pac at 147 let it go the catchweight argument, because u r just making excuses otherwise. Those 2 extra pounds didnt help clottey thats for sure so dont keep kidding yourself let alone others.Last edited by hugh grant; 03-06-2011, 09:03 PM.Comment

No, you are the one that's hilarious trying to be all righteaous but at the same time starting this shietty thread. You look down on "*******s" for their so-called obsessive behavior, yet you post a thread like this hating on him in a indirect manner. You're as bad as "*******s".Comment

i'm not defending it ,but just off the top of my head, he's coming up in weight so the old adage is implied, a great smaller fighter vs a good big fighter, usually the smaller fighter no matter how great will lose due to size, i'm not sure if that is the case, but the fight is won in the negotiations.
all the guys that SIGNED to fight pacquiao knew exactly what they were getting into, the catch weights were no surprise, so if they SIGN the contract, then the fight is what it is contracted, there should be no complaints, all was disclosed....
and the other being, all the guys he's fought have been names, and sad to say boxing is more about appearance than it is about substance these days..........
money, money, money, marketing, and deception to make the money through the marketing.........
you no like, don't buy...........Last edited by deuce_drop; 03-06-2011, 09:12 PM.Comment
