  • Cotto as a Righty

We all know he is a lefty but because the accident and his rehabilitation he uses the orthodox stance. I feel this causes him problems against pressure fighters because behind his jab his right is slightly weak but this benefits him against speed fighters because his left jab has more mustard than mosts. What i dont get is why his right hand has not really improved in the last 3 years. Its an awkward style for most but because he fights like a righty but he is actualy a righty he will always struggle against pressure fighters

He always fought in an orthodox stance, even as an amateur long before the injury. The accident didn't occur until 2001, a few fights after he had turned pro.

Cotto's only losses r against Pacquiao n Plasterito. Therefore I think we can conclude that Cotto is pretty ***** good and that advice from people on message boards is unlikely to improve him significantly.

Somehow I had never heard of this accident, or if I did I forgot about it.

I thought the same thing. They just always said he was a natural lefty.

he had an accident when he was in his early 20's and was told he would not box again. i think it was a car crash. but he fights righty and he is a lefty and thats why i think he struggles with leftys

What a terribly misinformed thread. Like someone already said, that's his style. He had that style before the accident that injured his right shoulder.
