Comments Thread For: Roy Jones-Lebedev, Date of June 4 Now Being Discussed

Negotiations continue for a battle between top cruiserweight Denis Lebedev (21-1, 16KOs) of Russia, and former four division champion Roy Jones Jr. (54-7, 40KOs) of the United States. A few days ago it was reported that Balashikha could host the fight on a late April date. However, Alexander Pavlov is reporting that June 4 is being considered, with the fight becoming a pay-per-view event. The pay-per-view would be carried in the United States, England and other countries.

        By Dan Rafael:
Although former pound-for-pound king Roy Jones Jr. has been in talks for a spring fight in Russia with cruiserweight contender Denis Lebedev (21-1, 16 KOs) of Russia, the fight appears unlikely. "They made us an offer and we countered. There is a huge gap, and I don't see it happening based on what I know now," John Wirt, CEO of Jones' Square Ring Promotions, told ESPN.com. Lebedev is coming off a split-decision loss to titleholder Marco Huck on Dec. 18. Jones (54-7, 40 KOs), 42, was a four-division titleholder, but is way past his prime. He has lost two fights in a row in lopsided fashion: a first-round knockout to Danny Green in Australia in December 2009 and a near-shutout decision to Bernard Hopkins in their April 2010 rematch.

            The Racket Squad: Jonestown.

            This fight will never happen.
            1) A horrid spectacle such as this belongs in the Roman Collesium where humans were thrown to lions.
To my knowledge, Rome has more sense then Vegas and would never go for it.
            2) HBO and Roy would look like Charlie Sheen, willing to sacrifice all dignity for ego, publicity and a buck.
            3) Asking PPV dollars for such a massacre would be second only to televising an execution.
            4) Roy is already the poster boy for fighters who seem to require protection from themselves.
            5) Lebedev fought a great fight against Huck and came up short.
He could damage Jones in a truly severe fashion.
            6) Back to the obvious. The fight will never happen because humanity has not reached that low a point in evolution.
But then again, Pac and Shane are going to engage in the stanzas it will require to prove that time waits for no man.
Whoops. I forgot. This is Boxing we are talking about.

Roy might end up with a slurred speech and he'll lose his job as a commentator.
