Boxing is about money and dont act like Calzaghe wasnt known. He was fighting on Showtime unlike guys like Morrade Hakkar and he certainly better known than guys like David Telesco.

People talk about Calzaghe being unknown but Glen Johnson was seen as a glorified journeyman at the time. Why would Joe "duck" him?
What you are saying might make sense from one aspect. But another way of looking at it is it's a fact that the reason why Hopkins and Jones weren't so quick to sign a fight with Calzaghe is for that very reason. Pulling out of fights with injuries all the time. Or at least that's my opinion.

People need to put themselves in Hopkins' shoes. Why pass up a payday against the biggest draw in boxing in De La Hoya to sign a fight with a guy who isn't even going to go through with his training camp without pulling out of the fight with an injury?

      • Not a good thread Larry. Calzaghe is quoted not wanting to fight Prime Jones without getting paid "the crown jewels" for it. It's been posted on the board a bunch, maybe even in this thread (couldn't be bothered to go through every page though) and BIG money is something that wouldn't have been on the table at the time for him being a commercially unknown SMW.

Pricing yourself out of a fight when you're not A side was always seen as a duck on this site last I checked.

Not too familiar with Hopkins/Calzaghe crossing paths bitd, but claiming to be afraid of flying for not making big US fights you were happy to make when these guys had seen better days isn't a good look.

Hopkins was offered the fight before Calzaghe pulled out injured against Johnson so your post doesnt really make sense.

How can you price yourself out of a fight when you were never offered terms?

                • bhop and jones got the ass whoopin when they wanted it

calzaghe was calling them out for years(google it news and videos to prove it)

when was bhop calling calzaghe name?.....after the winky wright fight
                  hopkins ducked/dodged 168 pounds

jones jr was calling calzaghe out after trinidad fight

fact is joe calzaghe beat up Bernard Hopkins with roy jones jr set ringside and joe calzaghe gave roy jones an ass whoopin beat him so bad that he failed at defending himself with Bernard Hopkins set ringside.

The big thing people forget is calzaghe,Hopkins and jones where not in the same weight division they were the best in their separate weight division for a long time when they fought in the same division joe calzaghe was the best rated as number 1 bhop was a 2 and jones was ranked at 5

                  15 year career 11 year champion 46-0
