Firstly, I actually have seen a hell of a lot of Calzaghe fights, and I do miss him.
He did have a slappy style, but his high work rate was exciting. He had sloppy times, but also very accurate at times too.
Do not let the Hopkins fight judge him, both had a bad fight, a bad style match up and Hopkins went for some dodgy tactics.
Anyway say what you want, but he had good footwork, a style that was hard to hit, a high workrate, a good jab and fast hands, he had good intangibles, and knew how to box, as well as 'brawl', even though he had no power.
He had his bad moments, and bad fights, but his boxing brain was very high indeed.
Roy Jones, he may have been superman, with his athleticism and speed, but we all have to remember he used an illegal substance.
Anyway even without, and let's say all his speed was natural etc... then well, it was just that. When it comes to boxing brain, Hopkins is far superior, and in style too.
Roy is more exciting.
As for Calzaghe, he did have heart, a chin, and was tough. He only stated getting cut since Bika, when he was older. He never been cut until he was old which he stated. Also he always got up when dropped.
His style was difficult to beat, his boxing brain is underrated, and he would give anyone a hard time for 12 whole rounds.Comment
