Gatti vs. Ward I, II, III - Greatest Ever?

Floyd Mayweather waited to fight Gatti three years after Gatti got damaged fighting Ward three times. Gatti already had 6 defeats when he fought The Wifebeater Mayweather.

Why does Floyd only fight damaged goods fighters?

I honestly thought this thread would be about one of the greatest trilogies in boxing history, but I guess I shouldn't place so much emphasis on thread titles.

In response to the title of your thread,no,the Gatti-Ward is not the "greatest ever".Quite frankly,it's as overrated a trilogy as you'll ever find in boxing.A truly great first fight,no doubt. But the second fight was a one-sided boxing exhibition, and while Ward did his best to make it competitive the third time around,it was more of the same: Gatti boxing his ears off.

Both men have engaged in greater contests than the last two fights of that three-part series.Mind you,I'm not against two of the most exciting fighers of recent times receiving such plaudits - they deserve it.

While Gatti had some really exciting fights because of his get hit alot style, he was never anywhere near a ATG. The biggest fights he ever had were against Oscar and Floyd and both outclassed him completely.

He was just a journeyman fighter with a following....

Having said that. Floyd could have beaten him any day anytime any era... Without even training..... Doesnt mean Floyd didnt duck him for a while..

            He likes to do that.

Gatti did have some speed and even some boxing skills. But like Floyd said he is just a C-class fighter. Would have loved to see what he would have done against Hatton though.
