    Tell me about Johnny Nelson

From the Brendan Ingle school of boxing (Naz... Witter...) Nelson has won 44 (29 KOs) but lost 12 and drew 2.

Most of the losses were actually his learning curve, his recent 19-fight winning streak only interrupted by a draw with Guillermo Jones, who later turned out to be juiced.

Nelson's only been stopped once, KOed in three by Norbert Ekassi thirteen years ago. (And does anyone know why he was DQed against
    Franco Wanyama twelve years back?

Biggest names on his record are probably Corrie Sanders (lost on points) and Carl "The Cat" Thompson (stopped Thompson in the fifth in highly controversial circumstances).

The only thing is... I've never seen him. I've seen the guy in a suit talking about other fighters on SKY Sports more than I've seen him box... is he any good?

Nelson isn't as good as his record suggests, it was Herol Graham who got him into boxing because Johnny was into drugs and leading a miserable life, Herol knew Johnny's elder brother well and got Johnny into the gym and helped him sort his life out and Herol learned Nelson everything he knew (it was Herol who started the 'Ingle Style' of fighting, it wasn't Ingle, it's the Bomber Graham style). Sure Nelson has the awkward style he learned from Herol, and sure he's hanging on in there defending 1/4 of the world championship in one of the weakest divisions in boxing, but the best opponent he's ever fought is Dennis Andries who was something like ****ing 50 years old at the time of fighting Nelson. He just isn't as good as his record suggests.

Another thing with Nelson is that, as far as I know, he had ZERO amateur fights!

he is quite good actually.........flashy fighter who utilizes his jab quite well..........he would give any other champ a run for his money........

he just isn't a guy who shoots his mouth off, and that's probably the reason why he hasn't earnt any big bucks until now............but he has been happy defending all over europe for average pay cheques.....

i think he is 40 odd, so his next defence against the italian mandatory might be his last..

Nelson's the sort of guy I wouldn't go out of my way to watch unless the opponent was exciting, he can outbox guys and has good skills but is quite boring with it a lot of the time and if he gets hit hard he becomes even more cautious, the fight he had with Guillermo Jones I think it was, that was one of the most boring fights i've seen in a while, I'm not sure but it wouldn't surprise me if in the fight he was dq'd in was for excessive holding, he did it against DeLeon in his first title bid(I thankfully didn't see this but read the reports, Nelson got feathers posted through his mail box afterwards!) and he also did the same thing against James Warring in his 2nd title try and that was another shocker, Johnny says he was just an immature kid at the time and he was pretty young but that cautious streak is always in him.
He has this defence coming up and if he comes through that I think he wants to end his career with a big British showdown with Enzo Maccarinelli which I would definitely watch.

              ****in entertainer should be rubber.
I actually think hes not a bad fighter but is gunshy, he uses all of his natural advantages very well, hes slick and knows how to survive and hes got stuck in from time to time (well sort of) hes def only got a fight or two left in him, hes done well considering he lost his first three on the trot and im sure ive read an interview where he said his first fight he fought back cos he was frightened to death of being hit so threw shot to try to stop the other lad hitting him, i think he only had a handful of amateur fights too
