Booker Sentenced to 12-30 Years
In another sad story of wasted talent, now former cruiserweight contender Rydell Booker was sentenced to 12 to 30 years in prison today for Possession of ******* with Intent to Deliver over 1000 Grams. Booker, 24, was last seen suffering his first defeat in a nationally televised showdown with James Toney last September. His record stands at, and will probably forever remain, 22-1 (12). Under Michigan law, Booker must serve a minimum of 12 years before becoming eligible for parole. While watching him being led away from the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice in Detroit, disappointed manager John Carlisle, who deftly piloted the career of Booker to several large-scale shows in Detroit, an ESPN2 headlining appearance and the WBC heavyweight elimination bout with Toney, remarked of this sad story, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.”
