Calzaghe's opponent tomorrow... beat the man who beat Lacy... sort of.

Although Joe Calzaghe's opponent tomorrow will naturally be a soft(ish) target just to give him some practise for the big Lacy bout, I was surprised to read that the opponent - Evans Ashira - beat out a unanimous points win over Quinton Smith.

One of Smith's claims to fame is that he stopped - not just beat, but stopped - Lacy while in the amateurs.

Calzaghe should do the business, but with his mind on the November(?) bout, maybe he'll slip up...

Ive only see Ashira once against Masoe and it looks like Calzaghe will end this one very very early.

As for Lacy getting stopped, who cares, if someone is going to stop him at the professional level they are going to have to fight their ass off.

Calzaghe vs. Lacy is on paper as good a fight as their is in the sport, it would be brutal and despite what many disphits say on either side it is a U pickem.

Lacy wouldnt be hard to stop in the ams, he does take some clean shots and the ams is really bad for stopping the bouts too early. I dont think that proves much but it makes it slighty more interesting mate.

none of this matters, because Calzone is going to find a way to NOT FIGHT JEFF LACY. Even if Calzone wins with the 1st punch in the 1st round this weekend, he'll claim that he broke a finger or twisted his ankle or caught the flu and that he won't be ready for November.

WE'LL NEVER EVER EVER SEE CALZONE FIGHT A TOP FIGHTER

          EVER

he's too slow, too soft, too protected, and too well PAID vs. lousy fighters to ever step-up to the big leagues, he's a white 168 lb version of Frank Bruno: great in the UK vs. UK stiffs, but completely uncompetitive vs. world-class opposition (no, not simply US fighters, but anyone from any country with skills)....the guy got KD'd by BYRON MITCHELL, think about that, Byron No Skills Mitchell nearly KO'd Calzone, that's sad stuff

bring on the comebacks, just remember that I'm 100% correct until proven otherwise

Lets see here sactown, you say that Calzaghe is too slow...well compared to Ali maybe but he is faster than Jeff Lacy and anyone who has seen the two fight would no that...hmmm, have you seen Calzaghe fight?

By the way the one thing that Byron Mitchel could do was punch and when you get into a wild reckless brawl which Joe did you are bound to get caught, there is no disgrace in being knocked down by Mitchel, the only disgrace in this case would be to discredit Joe because of the knockdown.

You were wrong on two points, dont you owe me some money?

Again Calzaghe vs. Lacy, a U pickem no matter who you are rooting for.
