Bob Papa doesn't deserve to be on that list. As a long time viewer of HBO boxing, it would be weird not to hear Jim, Larry and Emmanuel doing commentary.

I still don't see the problem with this. Lamps is there to make the fight exciting, which he does. No where in his job description does it say you have to call the fight straight down the middle so there is no influence on what the viewer on tv sees. He's not a judge, he's a fan. A fan that just so happens to have a great tv voice. I don't see the harm in him showing biased towards certain fighters or calling Steward out if he disagrees.

Thats exactly what his job is. Hes supposed to call what's happening, not put his own gay spin on it. Play-by-play guys call the action, colour commentators give analysis.

It annoys me in other sports as well when one team is favoured over the other by commentators.

I like all the HBO commentators except for the annoying Max Kellerman.

He's nothing but a fanboy, and has no insight into boxing whatsoever. I like the way Roy Jones puts him in his place.

Same here. Papa's monotonous tone and lackadaisical delivery is like a cure for insomnia. It could be a FOTY candidate he's commentating, and I still get the impression this dude is sitting ringside reading a magazine, occasionally looking up to make a few bland comments. Papa seems like a guy who would be more at home commentating Tennis or Golf. I honestly think he's the worst blow by blow guy in the business and feel like his commentary takes away from the quality of an HBO telecast.

i hate merchant and i dont like kellerman or lampley. dont know popa guy. roy jones is the best and steward is runner up.

didnt like merchant before the katsidis - jmm fight, disliked him even more after it, cant remember what he said to katsidis, something to do with his brother, but he didnt need to say it. senile old man.

lampley says they throw a certain punch and it was clearly something else, but i think he has a good voice and good energy.
