As a big lower weight fight fan ive witnessed this 2 rise to stardom and now that they both meet ill give you my analysis
Donaire at his best
his best work comes as a counterpuncher against slow guys with regular chins, he usually looks spectacular against this types of fighters and thats why hes at 5 in the p4p list
Donaire boxing skills
Donaire size is a huge advantage over the smaller flyweights, but despite being fairly skilled with great speed and having a long reach he can be outboxed like Mthalane showed us
Donaire at his worst
Donaire worst matchup comes against guys who put a lot of pressure on him and most importantly have good chins to withstands the inevitable counters
Montiel best work
Montiel best work comes against static predictable guys with regular chins, hes able to turn the tide with one punch, his offense is varied and unpredictable, which enabled him to become 8 in the p4p list
Montiel boxing skills
Average but underrated, Montiel can hang in there with the slickest boxers ive never seen him outclassed or made look like a one dimensional fool, however despite Montiel handspeed and good footwork, he is fairly inactive almost as if he doesnt mind losing rounds in the scorecards
Montiel at his worst
Montiel worst opponent would be a taller guy with more reach and more important with the power to make his punches count and most importantly wear down Montiel
final thoughts
On paper Donaire seems like the favorite since he is the type of fighter Montiel struggles against, but that was also the case with hasegawa and valdez, at the end this will come down to who can hurt his opponent first
Prediction
after some cautious first rounds i see donaire hurting montiel, then its a mystery to me can Montiel bring out his experience and heart and beat the odds one more time or will donaire's youth and speed allow him to finish the veteran?
TL,DR
IMO the best bet here is donaire by ko at +130 but if u can find montiel at +170 its a good play, just dont be a fool like me and bet on montiel at horrible +140 odds, at least it was just 40 $
