    Benard Hopkins Overrated

TO me Benard Hopkins is a very overrated boxer.20 defenses yea who has he beaten. Tito and DLH yea big name but they are stuffed up welters and benards is a natural middlewieght. When he got in the ring with a true middlewieght he loss to Jermaine Taylor. If he would of got in the ring with Tito ot DLH in thr welters he would of gone to school.

As if this hasn't been discussed dozens of times. And it's as if the fight wasn't close with Jermaine, and tons of people didn't think he won, and he wasn't 40.

Totally agree, Hopkins has been grossly over-rated these last four years.

I don't care how many defenses he has...but he is GREAT!

He is a ****ing god in that ring....

He lost to Taylor, but still managed to beat the **** out of him..

He made Taylor look like a scum bag...

ANYONE that says Taylor looked impressive has a big pencil in their brain...

Taylor didn't manage to land more than 1 flush shot in the whole fight...

Hopkins being overrated and all..still fight great against Taylor. If he was grossly overrated, he would of been dominated. To me, Hopkins won the fight or at least ..it was a draw.

Hopkins is great no doubt about it but he is also fortunate as well, he has fought one great middleweight in his enitre career and that was Roy and if you have seen that fight Hopkins was simply in with a more talented fighter and in order for him to have a chance he needed to give an extordinary effort which he certainly did not.

HE is great but fortunate too, no Gerlad MClellan, No Benn or Eubank, no PArks, no Kalambay or Nunn, no Roy remtach, no Julian Jackson, no Grahm or James Toney, 20 defenses is 20 defenses and it is damn impressive but while Nard was a middlewight there was plenty of top notch comp that he never ever faced.

Cant help but throw a jab at him every now and then, sure he is a great story and he should be seen as an example for every person who has been locked up but the man still has no class. Great fighter...for sure...fortunate fighter...absolutely.

you could probably take that paragraph word for word and match it up to the hundreds of topics already made with it...

I guess people forget that he beat both Tito and DLH with skill...not overwhelming them with size and power...that is not the type of fighter he is...

then of course like any case...they throw in the "as soon as he fought a true middleweight" etc...the second he loses, it is all of a sudden the ONLY true middleweight he has ever fought...if he lost to eastman...people would say "as soon as he faced a TRUE MW in Eastman, he lost.."

                blarg...

The case could be made, since apparently, KO'ing trinidad and having numerous other good fights, dosn't count, that almost every up and commer is overrated.

                  Let's take a look?

                  Cotto- Overrated
                  Hatton- Overrated
                  Judah- Overrated scared *****
PBF- Want's to fight the best club fighters is the truth.
                  Ouma- was overrated.
                  Peter- Overrated
                  Cintron- was overrated

The list could go on. In fact I think it has more to do with the era we are in. Most of these figters are not really as tough as they make out. They are good business men is what they are.
And being able to hand select oponents that will give you some trouble but not much, dosn't make you good. So, if nard is overrated, then the fighters on my list are also clearly overrated not really having proven themselves with real wins, like a trinidad on the reume.

Maybe only hatton because of his zoo win, but zoo was off, he is still overrated.

IMO, I think Bhops is not overrated. Maybe the reason some people rag on him is becouse his style isn't very exciting to watch or that the middleweight division is percieved as being weak so his defenses are meaningless. There is nothing overrated about a 40yr. old man who comes to every fight in tip-top shape and is able to school all the young guns on just skill alone.
