Talk about bad timing. Let's say Pascal improves his defense to bodyshots and his stamina. Let's say that Hopkins has a bit less energy and speed because he's aging. Let's say, even just for fun, that Pascal wins. HBO gets then stuck with a 3 fights contract. Wow! Bute is under contract with Showtime. He's in line to get a shot at the super 6 winner. I don't understand that move. It just doesn't work.

I don't think there's a fighter alive who has a 3 fight deal with HBO and they gave it to a elderly citizen?

How does GBP have the leverage to pull this off? Does anyone even care about a rematch with Pascal? The first fight was good but the 2nd won't be as good.

This is completely shocking, and even for HBO this is surprising. Bute is signed with showtime last I checked and Dawson since being on HBO has a complete bust. Since his first fight with Johnson his fights have been completely boring.

My guess is the deal is contingent on Hopkins winning. If it's not, my god....

My GUESS is that HBO did what they had to do to get this fight. Remember Showtime was trying to get the pascal rematch too, so it could have been one of those things where HBO, being that they lost pacquiao, showtime has the super six plus a number of upcoming fights, hbo had the bad alexander/bradley and they basically didn't want to lose yet another high profile fight so they threw in a nice contract to richard schaefer to make sure they got this fight.

Maybe there is stuff in the fine print that voids the contract too, such as hopkins losing or the fight doing terribly.

People are acting like the old Bhop is back. HBO is making a mistake. Pascal just made him look young again because he was the one backing up and Jean Pascal has ****ty boxing skills.

Hopkins is like a roulette wheel with his entertainment value. He can be semi exciting and unbearable to watch, and it is kind of weird to me. It seems like all the good to decent or interesting fights he has are against conventional fighters like Taylor (the first fight was at least interesting and some good exchanges), Pavlik, Ornelas, and now Pascal. And the kind of fights Hopkins has that are boring outside of the Roy rematch (that fight was god awful) are against Southpaws. Calzaghe, Wright, and he mugged Tarver a lot even though I enjoyed watching Hopkins put a beating on him.

I'm just saying it seems like Hopkins clinches less when he's in with a conventional fighter. That's why I see a Hopkins-Dawson fight being ugly as hell to watch and this fight with Pascal will probably be decent in spots but nothing breath taking.

As a fan of Hops, I'm actually glad he's getting his just due and I want to see him fight Dawson to shut all these nuthugging ****s of that even more boring fighter up.

Not nearly as much as they are lacking good management. Ross Greenberg and Kery Davis absolutely have to go.
