Comments Thread For: Elio Rojas-Guty Espadas Rematch in Talks For May

It's being reported in the Domincan Republic that WBC featherweight champion in recess, Elio Rojas (22-1, 13KOs), could return to the ring in the month of May in a rematch with Guty Espadas Jr. (45-8, 28KOs) in New York City. Rojas dominated Espadas on February 20, 2010 in Merida, Mexico, in the first defense of the title he won in Japan in July 2009. Elio's attorney, Victor Rojas, told reporters in the Dominican Republic that negotiations with Espadas' team are ongoing.

It's not so bad considering Elio Rojas hasn't fought since february of 2010. I see it being as dominating as the first fight.

I forgot about this guy. I would rather see him fight someone else because I had him winning every round of that fight.

Also did you mean Rafael Marquez? I don't get that last line, JMM isn't a FW.

I rather see him fight someone else, but I rather Espadas than some journeyman. Espadas actually tried to win and looked like he had something left in the tank. There isn't a better measuring stick for Rojas coming off of surgery and a long layoff than fighting Guty again.

My thoughts exactly, if he's able to put on the same performance he did last time, then he's right where he left off

He must've meant Juan Manuel Lopez. Since Gamboa might fight John next, I have a decent feeling that Elio might get a shot at Lopez, unless Rafa Marquez gets the rematch. It works out either way for Rojas though, he can enforce the emeritus status to fight Hasegawa next.

Juan Carlos Burgos would be a better opponent.

Burgos is already set to fight on FNF at the end of the month. Burgos is a good young contender, you don't come off of major hand surgery and over a year layoff.
