  • "sign with Top Rank and you fight Top Rank fighters" good or bad?

it's not much of a secret that bobby is mostly matching his fighters with each other. But now as the whole thing that happened with Mosley and possibly even now with Marquez, do you guys think that its a good thing for the sport? I mean fighters outside Top Rank and even promoters that aren't Top Rank?

its the same thing that GBP tried to do. GBP doesn't develop any new talent. all they do is steal talent from other promoters by tempting them with HBO dates.

    and you know this biitches.

Right now it is bad, but they could potentially attract the majority of the big fighters.

If it makes the big/desirable fights happen and furthermore, helps boxing return to the mainstream (CBS deal) then I say more power to Arum and his new 'gotta catchem' all Pokemon' stance. When Shane became a 'free agent' and immediately got a Pac fight, I said I wouldn't be surprised to see Marquez, Berto, Martinez, and others do the same.

Top Rank is making major moves- fights in big stadiums, exposure in the mainstream, new tv/PPV deals, etc.

If you were a fighter like say Tim Bradley and you're the best (arguably) in your division and you can only get fights in 1/2 filled 2,000 seat Indian Casinos for $1 mil and then you look at the guy who's only 1 division ahead of you fighting in front of 50,000 people in Cowboys stadium, pulling in 1 mil+ buys and $20 mil every time out, on the cover of TIME, being featured on 60 minutes, meeting the president.... don't you think you would start second-guessing your 'promoter' too and think about going to the big leagues?

I know I sure as hell would.

In Pac's next 2 fights we could see him take on Marquez for the trilogy that so many want followed by Bradley. If those guys leaving weak situations for Top Rank or 'free agency' gets those fights done, then what's the problem?

It's bad for the sport because it shows that promoters can not work together and in order for boxing fans to see good fights we have to wait till fighters decide to sign with a promoter which may take years. Boxing is not the UFC where there's only 1 promoter and that's Dana White, so MMA fans get to see all the good match ups they want. Bob Arum is trying to copy this, just have in-house fights, like making Top Rank a major Boxing organization when it is just a promotional company. In boxing, it will never work as it does in MMA. Promoters need to work together in boxing.

That is not true about GBP trying to do the same thing. And even if they do this, it's good for the sport because GBP will give us the match up right away, while Top Rank will "build it up" for years until you do so much building up that one fighter becomes shot and the match up is no longer that attractive as it was.

Dibella, GBP, Shaw, and Goosen all have no problem matching eachother's fighters up. Why can't Top Rank join in on the fun? Why does Arum have to be greedy with the splits and his fighters? And only wanting to promote on his own?

GBP, Dibella, Shaw, and Goosen should all just keep working together and leave Top Rank out in the cold. Let Bob Arum do his own fights in Showtime. Hopefully Bradley signs with GBP, because if he signs with Top Rank then we'll only see Bradley vs [insert Top Rank fighter].

If it helps sign big fights what is the problem with that? If Marquez and Bradley signs Top Rank they can fight Cotto, Margo, Clottey after Pacquiao.

Bradley's last arena is one of the biggest in the US. The Pontiac Silverdome is capable of holding over 93,000 fans...just not for Bradley vs. Alexander. Maybe if Pacquiao, Mayweather, Hatton, and Da La Hoya had a tag team match.

How is it not a fucking problem?

If me and you are promoters, and you have a good fighter, and I have a good fighter, and boxing fans want to see them against eachother, we can't come together and make a fight because you want my fighter to join your company and that's the only way that fight will happen, because you want all the money for you. Like you seriously see nothing wrong with that?

That's greed at it's finest. And Bob Arum is a cancer to the sport of boxing.
