Comments Thread For: Khan-McCloskey: Paul Questions Amir's Power, Chin

European light welterweight champion Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12KOs), ranked at five by the WBA, is not impressed with the champion, Amir Khan (24-1, 17KOs). He challenges Khan for the title on April 16 at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England.

McCloskey is highly ranked despite being quite unknown outside the UK.
Hard to say how good he is but his KO ratio is not high , so he seems to be more of a boxer than a puncher, may actually therefore have better stamina than Khan, could be an interesting fight if it goes beyond the 8-9 rd's.
About the chin and power, I think McCloskey may change his opinion after the fight

I never like when other fighters question the other fighters power. You should always respect the damage another fighter can deal out or else it can come back to haunt you (unless it is like Calderone or Malinaggi or someone of similar ilk).

If you feel a guy can't hurt you with one punch, then what if he does you are screwed basically because your whole mindset will be blown.

I expect nothing less than a dominating performance by Khan.

McCloskey doesn't have much power does he?

Not many of his fights have gone the distance. He's not a big guy though so he is at a disadvantage in terms of sheer muscle.

I can see a mid round KO/TKO as a possibility. Best result I can imagine for McCloskey is losing a UD.

But he has KOed bigger guys than Khan.

Oh damn, I thought McCloskey fell through.

                Good stuff.

Probably the best Khan opponent for a UK fight.

McCloskey is handy, how do the UK fan's think he will go against Amir ?

He has more than enough power to keep Amir honest.

The " power " thing, is over-rated, just ask Maidana.

I have only seen a couple of his fights. McCloskey - while not being a devastating puncher - is not feather-fisted either.

The best fighter on the night will win this one, and I suspect that will be Khan.

I think Khan will outspeed him. Try to overpower him early on and see if he can get a KO.

Its gonna carry on like that, McCloskey is gonna test his defence pretty well, slip and move well but he's getting old so he's not as flashy as he used to be. Khan's gonna have to watch for that uppercut. Its Dudey's best shot.

For McCloskey's sake I HOPE he lasts the distance, a tiring Khan could always be surprised. Khan UD.

A KO/TKO in the mid rounds is possible but McCloskey doesn't cut easily he's never been down and, like you say, he's handy.
