Was Ricky Hatton undisputed champ at 140?

Now my understanding is that to be undisputed you have to win all 4 of the major belts, but Dave Rado doesn't believe so and claims Hatton was undisputed champ at 140. So who's right?

    edit:

    undisputed world champion

hatton was lineal champ but sometimes being the lineal champ doesnt always equal the best in the division.

Hatton was lineal champ but bradley was the best in teh division just like baldo was the lineal champ when floyd beat him but was far from the best in the division.

      Belt dont really matter

For example Devon got stripped before the Bradley fight and Judah-Mabuza are suppose to fight for it now

But if Bradley fights Khan, it will be for the undisputed 140 title even tho someone else has a belt

Not really sure if Hatton was tho

No lineal champ literally means best in the division

When Baldo won it, he was the best WW in the world

Not technically but basically. Kostya Tsyzu was the undisputed champion at 140 and Hatton beat him.

Same way your mancrush David Haye was undsiputed champion at crusierweight. He may not have had all the belts but for all intents and purposes he was undisputed champ.

You don't have to win all four belts to be a undisputed champion, sometimes all those crooked sanctioning bodies don't allow you to collect all the belts. I consider Hatton as an undisputed champion at 140 because of his lineal belt.

That would make him lineal champ, not undisputed.

Undisputed means there is no dispute about it, during his reign I don't remember hearing to many disputes about his status as champion .

I guess it depends how you define undisputed champion though and like several boxing terms it could be looked at any number of ways.

It is almost impossible to hold all the belts currently though.

You are correct undisputed means none of the major alphabets are dis*****g the claim. It is not an opinion but a technical fact.

Now being lineal simply means that the champion have beaten the man who was duly recognized as the champion. Is Baldomir the best in the division? Maybe not to others or maybe not in reality but it should be just considered as an opinion because Baldomir beat Judah who beat Spinks that means he is the Champion.

Being Lineal means having the right to be called the best IMO. because how can you claim that someone else is the best when this fighter actually have beaten the champion?

                    Example Hypho:

A fighter named Roy Jones was an up coming fighter and everybody thinks that he is the best by looking spectacular in every fight at Super Middleweight.

But to that day. The Champion is a fighter named James Toney. If ever Roy continues to look spectacular againts everybody except Toney. Do you you think you can rightfully declare Roy as the Champion?

Being a champion means beating the Champion. That's why Lineal and Ring are the most prestigious.
