no, he lost his big fights
mosley, tito, hopkins and mayweather
problem was he really took on all corners, put him self in a massive disadvantage fighting someone big as hopkins (which is why i respect pac so much for fighting big guys)
then coming off a huge lay off and a nothing fight in mayorga to fight a prime floyd when he was old and slow
if the guy fought the guys in his class in his prime, then he would have had more wins imo -
I think he is just about...based on the fact that he went up 6 weight divisions, and was highly competitive and title holder in all of them. He had a lot of close decisions, but my personal opinion is that he beat trinidad, and he beat mosley in their 2nd and lost the 1st. He had 2 highly disputable decisions against pernell whitaker, Ike Quartey, and Sturm. I believe he lost against sturm and the other 2 were very close and I had no problem with them being scored either way. All things considered he had a hell of a resume, he sneaks into my top 50.Comment

I'm not too sure. These threads always bother me cos it's not a simple question of just saying Yes or No, unless you're a real boxing historian and in ur mind u can simply come up with 50 names, right away, that you KNOW you'd rank above Oscar. That seems like a big ask, 50 names that you KNOW should be ranked higher than De La Hoya, who won championships in six weight-classes and had such a distinguished, illustrious career for so many years in the 90s and 00s. I'm not that historian so I have to sit down and say, Ok, obviously you rank Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard, Ali, Hearns, Henry Armstrong ahead of Oscar. And then you must say Duran is greater. But then there are other fighters like Jack Johnson and Gene Tunney, who, although great in their day, there doesn't exist much footage of, and what footage there is paints them very much as fighters of their day- sloppy, methodical, albeit very gifted craftsmen for their time. So I'd have to be inclined to rank Oscar ahead of them though I'm sure a lot of historians would not. Then there are other greats like Willie Pep, Alexis Arguello, Aaron Pryor, Marvin Hagler, Barney Ross, Tony Canzoneri, Stanley Ketchel, Mickey Walker, some of whom I've seen, some I have not. I would say the vast majority of this board would not have seen Ketchel, Barney Ross or Marcel Cerdan, but that won't stop them coming out and blurting HELL NO! OSCAR IS NOT EVEN TOP 100 or some such thing. From who I've seen, and I do have a lot of old tapes of Ray Robinson footage and compilations of some of the other early greats, I would say Oscar would deserve a berth in the top 50, he was an extremely gifted fighter at his best, so quick and predatoryComment

It's a tough 1 for real.I will say though that his losses to Floyd & Pacman came after his prime was long past.A prime DLH,in my opinion would be competive with the last kings at welterweight.I mean he'd put up a hellova match against SRL,Hearns,Duran & Benitez.(I didn't say he would have won),but his size speed & relative power would have made for some good fights.Even if he did try to back off late, those greats would have forced him to fight.Comment
