IMO Arum is holding this fight hostage, he's not in a hurry to match either guy against the elite of the division. John, Rojas and Hasegawa are the champions toghether with Lopez. The WBC is expecting Gonzalez to beat Hasegawa cause he only fights in Japan and if Gonzalez wins is easier to make the fights. Neither Juanma nor Gamboa will go to Japan. John is another guy holding a belt hostage, if he gets beat or stripped then we may have our showdowns. Mikey Garcia can beat Gamboa, Rojas can beat Lopez. Are we gonna get this fight? I think either guy will loose before it. Arum won't match Lopez and Gamboa until he holds 100% of his contract, which he shares with Universum. Over his dead body will he share revenue with them. Arum is killing boxing, he knows how it works, he's hoping Garcia beats Gamboa to make Lopez-Garcia. Trust me on this, he holds garcia's contract and Mexico-PR is always a better attraction than Cuba-PR...

Soy said that Gamboa would get beat handily by Lopez and I'd probably favor Juan Ma too. But the fight still needs to happen for division clarity. This crap about building up fights is rubbish. How many bums do we have to see Lopez and Gamboa fight? If they are not gonna fight each other why not fight another top fighter?
There's the winner between Hasegawa and Gonzalez, Mikey Garcia as someone mentioned earlier (Arum will keep Lopez and Gamboa away from him so you can't fault Gamboa and Lopez for that I guess), and Juan Carlos Burgos who's solid. Jorge Solis is a better fighter than Salido even though he's not great and I'd go as far to say he's better than Rafa and PDL at this point. So in my view Lopez is the most protected fighter of the two. Regardless, this fight needs to happen for division clarity.
Lopez should be ashamed of himself if he fights Marquez and PDL in back to back fights.

I understand the thinking of building the fight up. I actually like the idea of building up fights. To make it somewhat of a super fight. I think Juanma-Gamboa when it happens it could be thee fight.
But, here is the thing Top rank is not building the fight up anymore. They were doing a great job when they had both on the same card. That was a great way of building the fight up. But, like Jake mentioned they not even fighting on the same network let alone the same card now. And, that is not a way to build up the fight.
Cleaning out the division is a great way to build up the fight. And, if one happens to lose is not the worse thing in the World because now you have one extra player in the mix. However, fighting a SFW at FW is not cleaning out the division and fighting Marquez in a rematch is not cleaning out the division. That is not the way you build up a fight.

Bob Arum is playing it as if rumors of the destruction of mankind as we know it couldn’t be further from the truth. The Hall of Fame promoter seems to be in as much of a hurry to bring to fruition the aforementioned matchup as he was a year ago – which is to say, not at all.
The promise around this time last year was that fans would just have to sit and wait until the undefeated duo cleaned out the featherweight division, establishing themselves not just as the best in the division but also as legitimate boxing superstars.
Only then will the collision course be deemed a big enough event for their promoter to pitch to the folks at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The vision for this showdown is a stadium event, not one that settles for a casino backdrop just for the sake of getting the two in the ring together.
If and when he pulls it off, Arum will have created even more space between himself and whoever is regarded as the next best active promoter in the sport today.
For the moment, the question isn’t so much when or if he pulls it off, but whether or not there really is a plan set in place for the two to first clean out the featherweight division. [Click Here To Read More]

Senile Arum is a ***ing SCUMBAG!! I hope this BULL S H I T he trying to pull(Milking these 2 fighters) blows up in his face!!! The same way it happened to King years ago(1986) when King was setting up a mega-fight between then WBC lightweight Champ Hector"Macho"Camacho & WBA champ Livinston Bramble, but 1st to hype up the fight King set up a match between Bramble against Edwin"El Chapo"Rosario & Camacho against Cornilius"Boza"Edwards on the same card in Miami.. That night the S H I T hit the fan for King when "El Chapo" KO'd Bramble in the 2nd round & Camacho who had problems making the weight & announced he would move up to jr welter after the fight...
Solis ain't no piece of cake & if Gamboa gets past Solis they are going to have to deal with someone they have been avoiding..Cause Lopez & Gamboa's boogie man(Caballero) is entering the seen again cause the WBA just annonced that Caballero is the #1 & MANDATORY challenger for the WBA title at 126lbs...Last edited by Tomasio; 02-06-2011, 01:39 PM.
