  • Comments Thread For: Gamboa-JuanMa: Collision Course Still Moving Parallel

By Jake Donovan - The race is on to which will actually occur by 2012: the end of the world, or a showdown between unbeaten featherweights Yuriorkis Gamboa and Juan Manuel Lopez.

Bob Arum is playing it as if rumors of the destruction of mankind as we know it couldn’t be further from the truth. The Hall of Fame promoter seems to be in as much of a hurry to bring to fruition the aforementioned matchup as he was a year ago – which is to say, not at all.

The promise around this time last year was that fans would just have to sit and wait until the undefeated duo cleaned out the featherweight division, establishing themselves not just as the best in the division but also as legitimate boxing superstars.

Only then will the collision course be deemed a big enough event for their promoter to pitch to the folks at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The vision for this showdown is a stadium event, not one that settles for a casino backdrop just for the sake of getting the two in the ring together.

If and when he pulls it off, Arum will have created even more space between himself and whoever is regarded as the next best active promoter in the sport today.

For the moment, the question isn’t so much when or if he pulls it off, but whether or not there really is a plan set in place for the two to first clean out the featherweight division. [Click Here To Read More]

This fight need to happen. I think it would live up to its hype unlike Bradley-Devon.

Blah blah blah, The fight isnt going to happen with Arum around, He can milk both fighters and their respective fans by saying "We building up" the fight and those fans would suck it up..

It wasn't too early for 27 yr. old Bradley vs. 23 yr. old Alexander. Surely it isn't too early for 29 yr. old Gamboa vs. 27 yr. old Lopez.

That might be a good thing don't you think?

I say this because no one is improving (IMO) as fast as Mikey Garcia.

Personally I think in a year he can actually beat Gamboa (if he continues to improve like he has).

Arums too much hyping of these fight is a gamble and might as well collapse.
Solis is too dangerous for Gamboa and I pick Jorge by decision. Chris Johns is also a treat to both of them.

Agreed. Although I think a lot of opinions on Mikey will change after his next fight.
I really dont think Juanma and Gamboa get in the ring while theyre both undefeated. Too many defensive liabilities between them, too many build up fights. If I had to guess Id say Juanma is the first to get cracked. Dont be surprised if Mikey Gacia ends up beating both of them.

simple it down then take out the juan ma - marquez rematch and then wait for gamboa to fight solis and then the winner of that fight should face lopez next along with on the fight purse make it a 50/50 to even it out along with the fight taking place at the jersey venue and there we have it a featherweight unification fight we all want to see...
