Pretty funny considering he wasn't so pumped after Floyd beat the crap out of Mosley.

Agreed. There is a good article by the very well respected Thomas Hauser on secondsout dot com about how HBO lost Pacquiao. It seems Arum was still pissed at HBO for apparently stealing Mayweather away and saw the opportunity to be vindictive. It is a good read.

Anyone who calls themselves a boxing fan should be thrilled about the prospect of boxing being brought back to the mainstream on network television, in primetime nonetheless... regardless of how you feel about Shane Mosley's pending merciless face-rearranging beating.

Pacquiao-Mosley is just the vehicle, the catalyst for much bigger things. Anyone who can't see the potential is either extremely dense and short-sighted or they're just plain hating.

This the only thing Bob Arum gets pumped about. This ****in old crooked bastard needs to croak already.

"Everyone in the country will be aware of this fight and we believe they will be interested enough so that a sizable portion of those people will buy the fight," Arum said. "We think we have the tools now to really enhance the pay-per-view audience."

Commercials advertising a PPV fight on CBS is not bringing boxing back to mainstream television, just a bigger audience watching a PPV commercial. Boxing already airs on ESPN weekly so stop lying to yourself, because anyone with common sense knows what the Showtime/CBS deal is all about. Radio and commercial spots for a PPV fight in May.

Why wasn't Cotto/Mosley advertised with CBS? What about Pavlik/Hopkins? Bob Arum has a personal issue with HBO now, and all of the sudden he says he wants to bring boxing back to American television audience with a Non-American? Not buying it. Arum is looking to capitalize off of the NCAA tournament for promos, which is the only time CBS appeals to a young audience outside of football season and that it.

It a business move to maximize profits off a **** fight, because he knows every Pacquiao propaganda puppet will sell his phony message to get him over...just like your doing now.

Like I said, if you think this is all about Pacquiao-Mosley then you are short-sighted and/or dense. Cotto/Mosley and Pavlik/Hopkins wasn't advertised on CBS because A) There was no deal struck between the network and Top Rank at the time B) Those fights were licensed to HBO C) None of those guys are the calibre of star Pacquiao is.

The last part is key as I've used the parallel to the film industry before to illustrate this point. If you're a producer or director and you have a script for a big budget movie and you are trying to get financing/financial support from a major studio, your chances of getting your project green lit are exponentially increased if you're able to get a star attached to the project. Studios wouldn't green light a $100 million budget movie with no name actors in the lead roles (unless it's something with a huge built-in following like Harry Potter), but if you go to a studio head and say 'Will Smith agreed to take the lead role', then that opens the door for you and makes major deals much easier to strike.

Same exact scenario here, CBS would be bank-rolling Top Rank's project but in order to justify their financial commitment, they need a megastar who they know would guarantee a return on their investment. It's not Cotto, it's not Mosley, it's Manny, point blank.

Now if the PPV on SHOW does big numbers, obviously CBS would want to keep Pacquiao in their pocket, which means Uncle Bob can dictate terms more or less as Manny's promoter (agent). This would include moving a show like Top Rank Live from Fox Deportes to CBS primetime. The windfall would benefit Top Rank's lesser stars and introduce them to wider audiences, as well as build new names. Imagine Cotto, Chavez, Mosley, Cintron, Benavidez, JuanMa, Gamboa, Bradley, etc fighting regularly on free TV as well as Fight Camp 360.

How does this not benefit boxing? ESPN has a nice thing going but it's a niche phenomena compared to what CBS can offer.

Bob would be ****** not to use this as a springboard for taking boxing back to the mainstream, it is a reality.

But you think it's about one fight with Mosley and NCAA commercials?

**** outta here with your simple self
