Former interim WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (24-2-1, 18KOs) complied with the pre-weight for his challenge of Reyes Sanchez (20-3-1, 11KOs) for the WBC Silver belt on Saturday, February 26th from the Heartlands Events Center in Grand Island, Nebraska. DeMarco of Tijuana, MX, by way of boxing hotbed Los Mochis, visited the offices of the Tijuana Boxing Commission last Friday and weighed 139 lbs. under the watchful eye of the new boxing commissioner, former world champion Alejandro “Terra” Garcia. Juan Carlos Pelayo, the executive director of the Tijuana Boxing Commission signed off on the weight.
“My training has been intense but I feel strong and ready to give more than 100%,” DeMarco stated seconds after stepping off the scale. “I’ve heard that Sanchez is saying that he is going to knock me out. For that we will step in the ring, the fights are won in the ring and not by talking. I am anxious for fight night.”
According to the WBC, DeMarco could have weighed as much as 149lbs but DeMarco had no trouble being under that.
The championship bout will be transmitted by Showtime in the U.S. and Televisa in Mexico and promoted by Gary Shaw Promotions
