calzaghe is an hof'er. not atg. he was obviously in a weak era of smw's and he passed on opportunities to try and become an atg (ottke etc).

Ward apparently is SRR and can do anything he wants in the ring after his win vs a crappy kessler (not the same one jocal fought), sakio bika, allan green, edison miranda, and shelby pudwell.

he now has the experience to handle jocal and do whatever he wants with him, including outboxing him from the outside (even though he has yet to do that in a fight vs c+ or better fighters). he couldn't knock out miranda, or allan green and went the distance with them. just because he fights rough now he's equal in terms of skill level and experience and effectiveness in the ring to bhop.

joe was lineal champion in 2 weight classes and had 21 title defenses.....so he has some credibility. ward hasn't even approached him in accomplishments and is not proving to be such a well rounded fighter at the higher levels of the sport right now.

I agree those accomplishments hold him in good stead, and without doubt a Prime version of Calzaghe against this verison of Ward, there is only one winner.....but Ward has the chance, IMO, to exceed Joe's resume in the fututre as there seem to be a stronger crop of SMW at this moment, unlike when Joe fought.....

Its funny that people discredit Ward for fighting in his hometime all the time, but conveniently forget that Calzaghe more or less done the same thing...( added to the fact that some of his early fight stoppages are quite frankly, embarrassing)

People are actually saying Ward would get Lacy'd?

                I don't think so.

I'm a Calzaghe hater but I recognise that he'd beat everyone in the Super Six....apart from Ward. (Dirrell has the style to as well but not the heart or brain).

I ain't saying Ward decapitates him but his movement, skills and speed would give Slappy hell.

Ward isn't going to be stationary long enough for Calzaghe to wail away at him with flurries. Look how much trouble he had with Hopkins - and Ward right now is better than Hopkins was in that fight.

I don't think Ward would overwhelm him on the inside, Calzaghe knew how to handle himself and could fight dirty. But I just don't think he'd land on Ward. Movement would be the key. People are saying the Hopkins win is looking better in retrospect but let's not forget one thing; Calzaghe looked like **** in that fight. He barely landed a meaningful punch.

I personally think it'd be a close fight, the outcome probably dependent on where the fight was held.

Another thing about Ward is that he has the same commitment to win that Calzaghe himself had. The reason why Slappy prevailed against Hopkins was cos he wanted it more, and Ward has that same winners mentality. That is why this would actually have been a fantastic fight but hey, Calzaghe wanted to preserve that bogus "0" he cherishes so much. Hey, I would do if I had the same, ahem, stellar names on my resume.

most people are gonna over rate the **** out of calzaghe cuz he's undefeated and retired but in reality i think ward would beat that **** out of calzaghe.

calzaghe fighting the current ward, then for me its a no brainer, calzaghe wins on points. joe was pretty smart in the ring and could change and adapt very efficiently and in my mind would have worked ward out and how to box/fight him.
ward isnt an idiot and in time maybe he will pick up the same ring smarts you can only gain with experience, but joe had too much experience on how to win even if it wasnt pretty.
