THE PHILIPPINE Heritage Preservation Trust announces it second exhibition series "Carriers of Tradition: Vanishing Philippine Masterpieces" in collaboration with Pistahan 2005, Filipino American Arts Exposition and Heartbridge Foundation from September 1st through the 30th at the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco on Sutter Street. A second collaboration with Al Perez President of FAAE and Pistahan 2005 activities at Yerba Buena and a first with Heartbridge Foundation president, Jacquie Lingad Ricci.

Dr. Ramon Silvestre, director of the Philippine American Heritage Preservation Trust is looking forward to this collaborative project to install this rare exhibition -- supporting the proposed Center for Philippine Art and Culture in San Francisco. The exhibition will showcase a representation of the various indigenous Filipinos and their material culture through our generous private and institutional lenders.

Pacquiao plays the role of Ambrocio Lerio, a young man who grew up in the midst of poverty. When his father died, he was forced to take on the responsibility of being the breadwinner of the family. He had worked on menial jobs in the market until he eventually discovered his boxing talents. He fought in many boxing contests and has become a boxing hero but he never forgot his past. Daria Ramirez plays the role of his mother who says "Gamitin mo ang iyong lisensyadong kamao at itayo mo ang dangal ng mga Pilipino." (Use that fist that's licensed to fight and raise the dignity of the Filipino.)

Tony Bernal directed the film from the screenplay of Serge R. Custodio, Jr. It co-stars Aubrey Miles, Juliana Palermo, Daria Ramirez, Eddie Garcia and Charlie Davao.

The Herbst Theatre premiere will also feature a teleconference with Manny Pacquiao from Los Angeles greeting his fans in San Francisco. Three (3) sets of sportswear memorabilia, posters autographed by Manny Pacquiao and other prizes will be available at a silent auction at the theater lobby.

Proceeds of the movie screening will benefit FAAE's next cultural project, the Pamana Arts Legacy Awards honoring outstanding artists in the seven (7) arts with a strong record of excellence and service to the community The event is slated on October 11 at the Herbst Theatre.

"We should come and see the film. Pacquaio has brought honor and glory to our country. We want to encourage him to once again conquer the ring in his fight on Sept. 10." said Rene de los Santos, director of the Philippine Department of Tourism

I watch a lot of movies, and something like this would be interesting to watch, if only for the novelty.

That being said, I don't really know how to answer the thread. I don't see this movie showing up at a theater "near me" (read: West Central Indiana), so I would have to wait for the video to watch it legally.

True, but I imagine I'll get around to seeing John Cena in The Marine this January, too, just to say I saw it...

I'm not always in the mood for an award-winning movie. Sometimes I just want to watch some trash. A fun trashy movie is better than an average or worse serious film, though. Hopefully the one Pac is in is watchable...
