Jan Zaveck is more of a warrior than any American welterweight. He wasn't afraid to go to Africa where he won the title with an impressive KO.
I agree with you sometimes Tunney, but you are completely full of ****e defending this kind of crap just because you like to piss on Americans and slip the tongue to any European fighter. I have seen Zaveck fight a few times and agree he's not a punk. But this "title defense" is a disgrace and can't be defended, any more than his first defense against Rodolfo Martinez could be. And by the way, Delgado, despite his place of birth, is an American welterweight (he lives in and has been fighting in my hometown for more than a decade). So I guess at least one American "had the courage" to go to Slovenia.

Dejan Zaveck holds a legitimate belt and he fights Rodolfo Ezeqiuel Martinez and Paul Delgado.

      Europe has no standards.
Hahaha, Didnt Andre Berto just fight like a #9 ranked bum and a shot Quintana?? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

HBO turned down Berto/Zavec and Shane Mosley was uninterested in fighting Zavec. Dude beat Hlatshwayo in 3 rounds by KO to win the title and avenged his only loss to #1 ranked Jackiewicz. He was supposed to be facing his mandatory, the winner of Randall Bailey (promoted by Floyd)/Said Ouali, but that fight ended in a NC and Zavec wont have a mandatory until theres a rematch.

If Europe is so pathetic why did Pirog ice a talented Danny Jacobs and make him look like a chump? Why do the Klitschkos kill any and every HW hope to come out of America?

I love and support American fighters but you are full of **** man, the state of American boxing is much more pathetic than European boxing. Quit being a nationalistic tool and learn to enjoy fighters from all over.

Why doesn't he fight Senchenko? I'm sure Kell Brook would love a shot. I don't care about him fighting Americans, he just needs to find somebody with a pulse. Germans are notorious for winning a paper belt and defending it against tomato cans for the rest of their career. Each and every single German champion is a scared coward.

Well thats fascinating, good thing Zavec isn't even close to being German.

Unification bouts are just as difficult to make in Europe, sometimes even more so because of language barriers. Zavecs goal right was to face an American champ or contender in America, which is why he and his people went to Margarito-Pac in Dallas. None of the American promoters were interested. Senchenko will probably be a possibility if he keeps winning and Zavec still cant secure an American fight, but what it looks like will happen is that GBP will match Malignaggi with Zavec in hopes that Paulie will win, so they in turn can feed Malignaggi to Ortiz or somebody once they move up to 147. If Warren wanted to match Kell Brook with Zavec, we'd hear about it on here.

Zavec is not a german and has fought good opposition. Learn a little about fighters before you go around slandering them, man.

My Germany comment was referring to Europe's love for tomato cans. Jan Zaveck is Slovenian, like you. I'd be surprised to see Zaveck accept a Malignaggi fight.

firstly, Dejan KO'd the champ for his belt in his backyard (South Africa).

He wants to bring boxing back in Slovenia. He won that title in impressive way and he deserves to fight at home for his people. I doubt these rich kids want to travel to Slovenia for a title shot and no money at all.

Did you watch his fights? hes all warrior with a big, big heart.

Since Zavec made his first defense, he's been looking to make a fight on HBO in America. When HBO put his face on their "top welterweights" during a telecast he even put that **** on his youtube page. Malignaggi/Zavec is a pick em
I don't think Zavec is some amazing boxe, and if that fight doesn't come off he will be facing his mandatory (definitely Randall Bailey will win in his rematch with Said) next.

In the course of one year he knocked out Hlatshwayo to grab the title and avenged his only loss to the #1 ranked challenger. What more do you want from him?

I respect Zaveck for his wins, and he needed to beat Jackiewicz (I thought Zaveck won the first bout). But this is a turd of a "title defense." Simple as that. For whatever reason, for whatever excuse people can make, this is a truly awful title defense.

There are 50 to 100 welterweights that deserve a shot more and I find it hard to believe that 50 to 100 welterweights turned Zaveck's promoters down. Every champion's promoters blather on about their fighter being avoided. Fans want to believe it, but IMO, in 95 percent of the cases, it's bull. It's just an excuse to make a crappy title defense against an undeserving opponent.

Would like to see Zaveck in with Senchenko because I think he wins handily and gets rid of the paper champion of all paper champions. I think he probably outpoints Malignaggi too.

                      Mosley wasn't interested.

This fight is just a boxing showcase for the Slovene people since the Randall Bailey bout didn't happen as planned. The fight is only a few weeks away already. I don't see what the big deal is.

In one year Zavec beat Hlatswayo in in 3 rounds and faced his #1 contender in Jackiewicz. He's proven his meddle and he's not ducking anyone.

Hes already in his early 30s. Just like Sergio Martinez he's looking to stack up the wins, make some money, and hopefully cash out against a big name opponent in America before he retires.
