Comments Thread For: HBO vs Showtime: Bert Sugar on The Programming Battle

The boxing world is still kind of buzzing about the recent announcement that Showtime-CBS will be airing the May 7th Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley pay-per-view event from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. For the past ten years Pacquiao had been a staple on HBO's airwaves but some shocking developments have insiders discussing the impact of this move as well as to how much of a blow this is to HBO's programming.

I agree with him believeing that HBO is still the supreme power for boxing at this time, even with showtime reaping cash and boosting ratings from this next fight, HBO will still probably be the powerhouse for at least a few more years. I don't see how Showtime could ever replace 24/7, the award winning epic show to hype up big fights is critical to my pre fight excitement, and a few others I know personally agree. Ultimately, whatever happens I hope it is for the better of boxing, althought promoters and some (Floyd for example) fighters are in this purely for the money, I always hope for whats best for the sport, hoping someday it will return to its rightful place of worldwide greatness...

Can you please explain how cable prices will get cheaper as a result of this?

          Thanks.

the show Fight Camp 360 that shotime put on for the super 6 was just as good if not better than 24/7. when they put it on cbs, i think this fight can be wildly successful if it can get general sports fans to watch... god knows boxing fans arent that excited.
I will say this however, mosley will come foreward and "try" to fight. hopefully hes game.
