  • Anyone else excited about Andre Ward's pro Debut on Saturday

I can't wait to see him fight, I have never seen him box before. I just saw highlights of him in the olympics. He could end up being one of boxing's new stars.

I am! He was my favorite (for the Olympics) before they started cause I saw him fight in a 'dual meet' against Ireland and he looked very promising with alot of potential. It will be very interesting to see how he handles the transition from amateur to pro. I definately wont miss it!

        Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am VERY excited to see Ward's debut. Not only is he a great fighter and a class-act, but he's the first top-notch fighter to come out of the Yay Area in my generation! Oakland has produced many great athletes (and even better rap stars!) but Andre is the first world-class boxer to come from OakTown since I've been born (roughly 25 years). Northern Cali will be in full force at the Staples Center, myself included!

Just an FYI, Otis Griffin (winner of the Next Great Chump) and Vicente Escobedo ('04 Olympian from Woodland CA, near SacTown!) will be making their Sacramento debuts this February, they were both introduced to the crowd at Arco Arena last Friday before the Michael Simms Jr. fight

The last gold medal winner HBO hyped up like this was David Reid and we all know how he turned out. Reid was the first gold medal winner to have his pro debut showcased on HBO. Reid looked awesome until his last few fights where he slowly fell apart.

I am very curious about how he'll be as a pro. He's been pity-patting for points as an amatuer, now he can and will need to express what power he has!

Remember, Reid was damaged goods before he even turned pro, that droopy left eye was bound to catch up to him at one point or another, his promoter at the time of the Trinidad disaster, Dan Goossen, was nearing the end of his tenure with the now defunct America Presents, and the whole company needed a big payday, so Reid was their sacrificial lamb....my point being, HBO and J. Prince won't make the mistakes with Ward that Goossen did with Reid - SacTown1
