    Morales an All-Timer?

ERIK MORALES: THE BEST OF A GENERATION?
06 September, 2005 by Cliff Rold

HBO DOUBLEHEADER HIGHLIGHTS THE SPORTS BEST!

It is hard to fathom that we have had him for nearly a decade but the ultimate warrior of boxing, Mexico’s Erik Morales, has indeed been a presence for that long. He has reigned at or near the top of every division from 122 to 130 since defeating Hall of Famer Daniel Zaragoza in 1997 and has quietly amassed the sort of record that any fighter, in any generation, would be proud to have.

Morales is the second greatest Mexican boxer of all time in my opinion. If he beats Pac again & if he goes gets a big win against Chico or Castillo, then he might catch Sanchez. Sanchez is #1 in my opinion.

It's getting hard, with his body of work against world class guys, not to rank Morales ahead of Chavez. His field of opponents has just been better.

Erik Morales is already a living legend... Whether he's the best fighter over the last 10yrs....

          Possibly.

(Althought Barrera might have something to say about that!!!)

i say once he gets his fourth title in as many weight classes, he will be the best mexican figher ever, and that includes ricardo 'finito' lopez who stayed undeafeated for 51 fights and retired as such.

Yes, Lopez was undefeated, but he also is lacking in overall depth of talent faced (and was VERY lucky not to walk away with a loss to Alvarez the first time).

Yes, another win over pacman and a win against barerra would be very nice, but even if he retires next week he still in there easy as pie

Morales is a all time great, no question about it.He has only lost 1 fight in my eyes ,he lost the 3rd of the Morales Barrera fight while the 2nd was robbed from Morales, I believe Morales should be 48 -1 with 2 wins over Barrera, 1 over Daniel Zaragosa, 1 over Carlos Hernandez, 1 over Jesus Chavez, 1 over Wayne Mc Collough, 1 over Kevin Kelley, 1 over In Jin Chi, 1 over Junior Jones, 1 over Manny Pacquiao, 2 wins over Guty Espadas, 1 win over Paulie Ayala, and his resume continues. He has a win in the first Barrera fight, That fight could have gone both ways, Morales won, the next fight vs Barrera, that fight was a awesome fight but Morales won Clearly by at least 3 points, The next and last fight vs Barrera, Barrera won it but it could have gone either way,(Morales fought 11 pounds overweight in the last fight vs Barrera), Morales is in my eyes 18 and 1 in title defenses, but his title defense record is really 17-2. He has conquered titles at 3 different weight classes. He has never been Knocked Out so he has the toughest chin in his weight divisions or maybe all of boxing, He has been in pound for pound top 10 for years and years while the De La Hoyas, Vargas, Hameds, Mosleys, L.Lewis, Tsyzus, Jones Jrs, Forrests, Trinidads, Spinks and everyone else drops off, People today and years ago usually put newbies of the pound for pound list ahead of Morales like today , all of a sudden , ive seen list that catapult the Corrales, Wrights, J.Taylors, Pacquiaos, and any other fighter ahead of Morales while dropping Morales down, He is also the most exciting fighter of the past 10 years, arguably. He hasnt even finished his career and hes already accomplished all of this, this man is 3 years younger at least than Marco Barrera
