Comments Thread For: Tim Bradley Confirms Placement Atop 140-Pounds, But(t)...

By Jake Donovan - Dead atmosphere. Disappointing action. A major fight that ends on a butt and not a punch.

Not exactly the ideal return to the big time for a sport desperately in need of a shot in the arm.

However, the ten rounds of championship boxing we did get at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan on Saturday night were enough for Tim Bradley to reaffirm his claim as the best junior welterweight in the world in taking a ten-round technical unanimous decision over Devon Alexander.

Bradley weighed in at 139 ½ lb, while Alexander came in at the division limit of 140 lb. in a rare matchup of undefeated American titlists, which served as the main event in the 2011 premiere of HBO’s World Championship Boxing.

Action was predictably slow in the early going. Bradley opened the fight repeatedly throwing his jab, while Alexander played defense and waited for an opening. Things picked up towards the end of the round, when Bradley set a trap and unleashed a flurry of punches. Most of them missed the mark, but was enough to discourage Alexander, who struggled early to uncork his offense. [Click Here To Read More]

Devon held too much and all those head butts were because he kept holding

If he just fought non of those would have happened

Plus it's not like Devon never butted timmy

No it wasn't. He didn't look good at all and he's a dirty fighter.

Alexander quit! Plain and simple. He needs to get a trainer that actually concentrates on training his fighter, instead of bumpin his gums throughout camp!

This fight just proved that Bradley cannot fight without headbutting and Alexander is a quitter. Both fought like amatuers and both would get KTFO by Maidana and lose UD to Khan. Pacquiao would literally send both fighters to hospital like Hatton and Margarito.

Yes it was, he's clearly the #1 rank JWW. Nobody else has a case.

Bradley looked fine to me. Hard to look good against an opponent who was constantly moving backwards, holding and pulling you toward him, laying on your head, and not being aggressive (Devon wasn't even sitting down on many of his punches, he was often backing away when he was punching). Bradley kept coming forward and tried to engage. He did a good job evading Devon's ineffective offense and landed the cleaner, harder shots. Headbutts happen and are a part of boxing (especially when a righty and lefty square off). Alexander made it worse by constantly trying to grab Bradley when Tim was advancing. This put his head in the way. Devon also butted Tim on at least two occasions himself but Tim didn't complain.

How lame is it to say Alexander quit! He couldnt continue having absorbed at least 6 headbutts from a guy who historically uses his head as his best weapon. It surely affected Alexander far more that any of those weak right hands Bradley was landing.
