What was good with that dead crowd?

I didn't think they were that bad. I've seen much much worse. The fight was not a war, the Silverdome is not a boxing venue, and neither fighter was from Detroit. Some people's expectations are insane. The seats looked pretty full from what I could tell. What more do you want?

How do you NOT sell out only a 6,000 people crowd. All of that is exactly my point, what reasoning was it to put this fight in a random quiet corner of the silverdome? In a city that neither fighter is from.

I don't expect the crowd to cream their pants from this fight but this happens all too often, period. There have been great fights in boxing in the last year where the crowd was dead. Bring more fights to NYC, we actually support boxing here.

The former home of the Detroit Lions and Pistons was configured to put the ring in a corner of an end zone, putting curtains up to create a relatively intimate venue with 9,000 seats on the floor and lower bowl. About half those seats seemed to be filled, but the announced attendance was 6,247.

Members of the military, police officers, firefighters, emergency medical service personnel and military veterans were admitted free if they showed up in uniform by the Silverdome's new owners, who are trying to make the venue viable.

The Toronto-based company that paid $583,000 for the 80,300-seat stadium in 2009 -- after it was largely idle for seven years -- gave promoters about as much money to land the big-time fight.

That was a really dead crowd. The theory that they were so quiet because of the dull fight doesn't make sense because they were dead on the fighter entrances as well! Who were these people? Bunch of MMA fans that came to make boxing look bad?

If this fight wasn't on HBO best believe it would have happened in St. Louis.
Every one wins except for the fans. The promoters and pugilists get guaranteed money because it was on HBO.

Technical fight, neither boxer was from the area nor were well none among the mainstream, not a lot of disposable income among the residents (the recession hit Detroit hard). Finally, although I personally have a lot of respect for Detroit and its sports fans, I’m not really sure how much of a “boxing” city it really is. Kind of a perfect storm that created an imperfect crowd.

I think they were so eager to fill the seats that they just dragged anyone in the street.
